Gov. Abbott’s Texas just undertook another massive expansion of its program shipping migrants who cross the Texas-Mexico border to sanctuary cities, announcing in a recent post on X that Texas would now not just be bussing migrants to Chicago, but would be flying them there as well.
The move comes amidst Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson losing it over Texas bussing migrants to his city, which he framed as being overstretched, saying, “The issue is not just how we respond in the city of Chicago. It’s the fact we have a governor, a governor, an elected official in the state of Texas, that is placing families on buses without shoes, cold, wet, tired, hungry, afraid, traumatized, and then they come to the city of Chicago, where we have homelessness, mental health clinics that have been shut down and closed. We have people who are seeking employment. The governor of Texas needs to take a look in the mirror, with the chaos he’s causing for the people of this country.”
Gov. Abbott, in his post announcing the expansion of the migrant program, said, “Sanctuary city Chicago started obstructing and targeting our busing mission. Texas will now expand our operation to include flights to Chicago. Until Biden steps up to secure the border, we will continue to provide overwhelmed Texas border towns with much-needed relief.” Watch the video of the plane flight here:
Commenting on Gov. Abbott’s post, people had very different views of the program. Some were all for it, with one, for example, saying, “Send them all! Increase the number of buses and flights and push arrest of anyone caught in the state via illegally migrating to the United States.”
Others, however, were very much against it. One of those commenters argued that Gov. Abbott was doing what the pro-illegal immigration side wants, writing, “This is also exactly what the globalists pulling Biden’s strings want: distribution. You’re aiding and abetting criminal activity by the federal government, sir.”
Still others attacked the program from the left. One of those commenters, for example, said, “Defunding schools and not giving teachers raises but you have plenty of money for this. Very pro life family of you … How do you fly a person without valid TSA identification? Seems like an arrestable offense.”
The expansion of this program comes shortly after Gov. Abbott signed into laws bills making it easier for Texas law enforcement to deal with illegal immigrants and human traffickers. Posting about those laws on X, Gov. Abbott said, “Biden repeatedly refuses to enforce federal immigration laws and secure the border. Texas won’t sit idly by. In his absence, Texas will defend our sovereign authority and protect our state through historic laws like the one I signed this week.”
And, speaking about those laws after signing them, he said, “Four years ago, the United States had the fewest illegal border crossings in decades. It was because of four policies put in place by the Trump Administration that led to such a low number of illegal crossings. President Biden has eliminated all of those policies and done nothing to halt illegal immigration.”
Abbott continued, adding, “President Biden’s deliberate inaction has left Texas to fend for itself. Today, I will sign three laws to better protect Texas—and America—from President Biden’s border neglect. These laws will help stop the tidal wave of illegal entry into Texas, add additional funding to build more border wall, and crackdown on human smuggling.”
