Given that Texas is blessed with immense oil and natural gas reserves, you’d expect that it would have its power grid set up well. With abundant energy close by, surely it could focus on developing a reliable energy grid to deliver cheap and consistent electricity to Texans, right? Wrong. In Austin, at least, the fragile power grid has been broken by a storm, leaving nearly 350,000 Austin-area residents without power…because of a storm.
Well one man wasn’t having it. Comedian and entertainer Alex Strenger, known for his funny performances at Austin city council meetings, showed up to address the council members while wearing a full clown costume. He had the rainbow wig, the white and red face paint, a Rudolf-like cherry red nose, and the clown clothes to go with it. And he said that he was suited to be the Austin Energy CEO.
Specifically, Strenger said he wanted to support items 39 and 81 because “there needs to be accountability for what happened.” Fox News Digital, giving some context as to those agenda items, reported that:
According to the agenda listed on the city’s website, Item 39 addressed the removal and replacement of members among other related situations, and Item 81 was specifically written to “approve a resolution directing the City Auditor to conduct a comprehensive audit of the Austin Energy Vegetation Plan and Austin Energy’s response to the February 2023 winter storm event.”
During his speech about why he should be the next CEO of Austin Energy, Strenger hit all the leftist totems. For example, he joked, in the context of hundreds of thousands of residents being without power because of a storm, that Austin needs to focus on what’s important, like “fighting climate change.”
Speaking on that, he said “We need to get to net zero by 2030, and honestly, if we are ever going to achieve these goals, you shouldn’t even be using power at all. Ok?” Continuing on that point, he said that he was “firmly committed to saving the planet” by lighting his gas stove on fire.
Strenger then went on to say that he would be a great candidate because he put pronouns and Ukrainian flags in his Twitter bio. He added that he would need a salary between $350,000 to $500,000 a year, saying that such a large sum would be necessary to fund his cocaine habit and take care of his wife “who has stage 5 testicular cancer.”
He then got to the affirmative action and race topic, saying “I also took a 23 and me test and found out that I am 3% black, so not hiring me would be a literal act of violence.”

Fox News Digital, adding more context to the power outage that sparked the hilarious speech, reported that:
His satirical speech comes a day after Austin Energy announced it had restored power to more than 99% of customers who were without for days following last Wednesday’s winter storm.
During the peak of the outages, approximately 150,000 Austin residents were without power. Local news outlets reported Wednesday night that around 230 residents were still without power a week later.
Austin Energy had previously stated nearly all remaining customers could expect power to restored by Sunday, Feb. 12, but on Tuesday, changed the timeline to “well before Sunday.”
