Resurfaced footage from 2020 shows Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) going head-to-head with Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) over the issue of Black Lives Matter during a year when racial tensions were at an all-time high amid the fallout from the death of George Floyd.
Cruz sounded off on the Black Lives Matter organization, calling out the values that the organization proclaimed to hold. BLM called for action such as boycotting white-operated companies and destroying the “patriarchal” nuclear family.
“Right now, what else does BLM the organization support? On its website, it called for a quote boycott of white capitalism. In 2017, they called on people not to spend any money with white corporations. And not only that the BLM website says that one of their objective is dismantling the quote patriarchal practices, and disrupting the Western prescribed nuclear family,” Cruz said.
The Texas senator noted that corporate America was donating exorbitantly to the group in its desperation to win the graces of left-wing activism. “That’s what they say their objectives are. The reason that matters is, right now, corporate America is desperate to demonstrate their virtue as we see great racial dissension,” he added.
Cruz specifically called out several prominent companies who financially supported BLM, including giants such as Microsoft and Amazon. The Republican noted how ironic it is for two white men, who have immensely benefited from capitalism, to fund organizations that seem to oppose them diametrically.
He continued, “I would note Microsoft, the largest individual shareholder is Bill Gates. More than ironic that Microsoft is funding an organization calling for boycotting all white corporations Bill Gates his white, Microsoft is literally funding an organization calling for Microsoft to be defunded. Jeff Bezos, the largest owner of Amazon, who likewise is funding this radical Marxist group. Jeff Bezos is white too. And he’s funding an organization that is caught calling for the boycotting of Amazon. This is dangerous and it’s worth understanding that when corporate America floods millions of dollars, into explicitly Marxist terrorist organizations that glorify cop killers that glorifies violence, that the violence and terrorism that flows from that should not be surprising.”
The GOP Texas further maintained that America was founded on the principle of equality, which organizations like BLM, seem to prioritize equity. Cruz illustrated that the objectives sought after by the BLM would extremely detrimental to society. Watch Cruz’s monologue below:
“And our nation was founded on the proposition that all men are created equal regardless of race or skin color. But the organization that has seized that name is very different and if they succeeded with their stated number one objective of defunding and abolishing every police department, many, many more black lives would would be lost because more African Americans would be murdered without the police officers that bravely risked their lives to defend those communities,” he said.
Sen. Hirono later hit back at Cruz’s comments before leaving the room. She refused to condemn radical left-wing organizations like Antifa and BLM and criticized Republicans for politicizing the deaths of police officers for personal gain.
“So it’s to constantly accused Democrats of not caring about that is really I can only say that you aren’t listening. So I hope this is the end of this hearing, Mr. Chairman, and that we don’t have to listen to any more of your rhetorical speeches. Thank you very much. I’m leaving,” he stated.
