During a recent concert on Morgan Wallen’s One Night at a Time Tour 2024, fans revolted when the country music star joked about Taylor Swift in between songs. Wallen began by pointing out that the concert he was actively performing held the record for most attendance in the history of the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
However, Wallen noted that this accolade will likely not stand since Taylor Swift is set to perform in the building later this year. The iconic pop star will inevitably bring in a massive crowd of dedicated “Swifties” that could very well outpace Wallen’s fan base.
“This is the single most attended concert in the history of this building, and we’re the first to do it for two nights in a row,” Wallen told the crowd. “I’m going to say that until Taylor Swift comes to town in the fall,” he added, laughing.
Upon mentioning Swift’s name, a few fans cheered, but this was quickly drowned out by a loud booing from a much larger audience. Wallen quickly downplayed the booing, “We ain’t gotta boo, we ain’t gotta boo,” making it clear he had no hard feelings toward Taylor Swift.
There were mixed reactions from users on social media, where many fans either slammed Taylor Swift or commended the decency Wallen had to defend her amid the deafening boos. However, fans of Swift reacted harshly to the negative reception of their beloved pop star.
“It’s commendable that Morgan Wallen took a stand to defend Taylor Swift and discourage his fans from booing. Showing respect and support for fellow artists, even in a lighthearted context, is important for fostering a positive and inclusive environment within the music industry. It’s good to see artists using their platforms to promote unity and mutual respect among their fan bases,” one person wrote on social media.
“When you sell out stadiums all over America and overseas, give me a call. Taylor Swift has some more class than you and your fans. She would never insult you, even though you deserve to be. Drop Taylor’s name to get your name out there. I don’t see you insulting any male artist,” one user wrote, voicing their disdain toward the behavior. Watch footage of the booing below:
Whether you like Taylor Swift or not, there is some merit to Wallen’s comment since Swift ranked as the biggest artist in the world last year. Moreover, the legendary artist has made headlines over the vast popularity of her Eras Tour, where some estimates predict that she will rake in over $4 billion once the tour is completed.
Nonetheless, Taylor Swift has garnered a negative reputation among conservatives over issues such as her stance on the LGBTQ agenda, endorsing Joe Biden in 2020, and displaying other forms of leftist sentiment. Swift even managed to anger NFL fans last season when her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce apparently distracted from coverage of games.
