WATCH: Tarlov Scrambles to Explain Teamsters Not Backing Kamala

During a recent segment on Fox News, “The Five” co-host Jessica Tarlov scrambled to address a recent poll showing a massive surge in support of former President Donald Trump from within the Teamsters. The Republican presidential candidate has been campaigning hard for the blue-collar vote, where some data suggests the historically blue demographic may flip in the upcoming election.

Introducing the topic, the host of “America Reports,” Sandra Smith, called out the recent findings of the poll.  “The teamsters just released the research from their phone poll, and it shows 58% support for Tom, 31% support for Harris. And right now we’re looking for where this poll was in the last president, presidential election, in 2020 that could obviously be be telling,” she said.

Smith continued, “But what we do have is looking at when Biden was still in the race. The straw poll for the Teamsters, between April and July revealed 44% support Jason for Biden. 36% for Trump. So it would appear that Trump is now surpassing Kamala Harris and far beyond where he was when Biden was in the race.”

Responding to the findings of the poll, Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz illustrated how the shift in support represents blue-collar Americans buying into Trump’s Make America Great Again agenda, which focuses on the domestic economy amid the apparent failures of the Biden-Harris administration.  “That’s not very close. Look, these are working men and women who want a job. They want the America to grow. I think they recognize the strike that Donald Trump and the weakness in Kamala Harris,” he said.

Chaffetz continued, “Also, if you look at the date range, the polling is actually going on at the date of the debate and then beyond the debate. So I don’t think she gave the time to ground. That Democrats are trying to spin that she did? Americans want to work. Teamsters want to work, and they know that Donald Trump in those four years was a lot better than the last three and a half years.”

However, Tarlov maintained that, while Harris has her work cut out for her, she has some work to do to maintain Democratic support within the unions.  “Well, she’s got some work to do. She’s going to win back some of those votes, and with President Biden having a higher percentage, there’s obviously room to grow there.”

Tarlov continued, calling out the existing endorsements Harris has received from unions. “And she could make the case that she’s going to be as good for labor as President Biden was, but she has been endorsed by the UAW.  She has been endorsed by the culinary union, even though Donald Trump is out there with his no tax on tips policy, which does have that massive loophole in it.”

Regardless, Tarlov emphasized that she believes Harris could very well pull ahead in the polls, but noted it would require considerable effort.  “So she’s got work to do. But this is very winnable. She can get that percentage closer,” she concluded.
