Co-host on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” Jessica Tarlov, recently made a significant admission regarding the strategy employed by Republicans early on in President Joe Biden’s term to draw attention to the unfettered illegal immigration that poured into the United States. Sitting down with journalist Katie Couric, Tarlov noted that the operations to relocate illegal aliens to Northern Democrat-run localities was the “smartest thing they ever did.”
The liberal Fox News commentator conceded that there was an apparent attempt by Democrats in the mainstream media to downplay the illegal immigration crisis. Tarlov said during the discussion, “On the immigration front, there was a tendency amongst Democrats, and especially Democrats who are discussing the issue so people who do interviews or are part of the media to minimize it over the first two and a half years, when there were a lot of people coming in here.”
However, Tarlov admitted that, at the time, she viewed efforts like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ move to ship illegal immigrants to the liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard as a political “stunt.” She continued, “And I thought that it was a stunt. You know, when I they started bussing migrants go to Martha’s Vineyard. Yeah, it was the smartest thing they ever did.”
Chiming in, Couric said, “It was interesting, because I have a friend who lives in Florida, and I said, ‘What did you think of Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott taking some of these immigrants and moving them to northern states.'” The journalist explained that her friend that it was an excellent move from the Florida governor to draw attention the crisis.
“And she said, ‘I thought it was great, because nobody really was paying attention before that. And I do think that this untold story was the strain on social services and communities, particularly along the border. This influx, huge influx of immigrants, was having, And I think the mainstream media, however you define that these days, kind of ignored that story to its peril,” Couric added.
The American Tribune reported on other comments from Tarlov where she voiced a surprising opinion about Daniel Penny, who was recently acquitted in the death of Jordan Neely. She said, “I’ve had a high opinion of this young man since this happened. I think that people who are criticizing him and criticizing the verdict haven’t paid much attention to the details of it and they are going with an overarching narrative.”
She continued, “Just because the system has failed in other instances doesn’t mean that the system failed this time. And the fact that there are words like ‘lynching’ being thrown around, I saw Jamaal Bowman, who thankfully lost his primary over the summer to George Latimer, posted a ‘Dear white people’ post on X. It is not the time for that.”
Commenting that it is important that the jury was able to come to an agreement and acquit, saying, “And you want the system to work this way. You want — I’m sorry for the trauma that he endured, but he sat before a jury of his peers, a diverse jury, they heard him out there, deadlocked on the manslaughter charge, and they were able to come to this agreement.”
