Videos out of Norfolk, Virginia, showed participants of the “Take Our Border Back” convoy gathering and then setting out in trucks, personal vehicles, and busses for Eagle Pass, Texas, where they plan to peacefully protest the border crisis. The videos came out on the morning of January 29, 2024, and that portion of the convoy was headed to Jacksonville, Florida.
For reference, the “Take Our Border Back” convoy has a full schedule for its planned progress across the United States. According to its website, it planned to travel from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Jacksonville, Florida, on January 29th. From Jacksonville, Florida, it aimed to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on January 30th. It then aimed to make it to Dripping Springs, Texas, from Baton Rouge on January 31.
Once in Dripping Springs, the group planned for a short, one-day protest on February 1, before heading to Eagle Pass, Texas, on February 2. Part of the group from Virginia also planned to Yuma from Dripping Springs instead of going to Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass, Texas, a major border crossing area, is where one of the main protests is to occur.
In any case, posting about the matter on X, the “I Meme Therefor I Am” account posted, “Participants in a ‘Take Our Border Back’ convoy set out towards Eagle Pass, Texas this morning after gathering in Norfolk, Virginia. The group will be traveling through the Southeastern United States before rallying in Texas this weekend.”
Continuing, the account quoted one of the convoy’s organizers, Craig Hudgins, as saying that tens of thousands of truckers from across America and even Canada are planning on participating. Mr. Hudgins reportedly said, “I’m hearing 40,000 truckers coming from all over the country and Canada.”
Similarly, conservative X personality Collin Rugg wrote, “JUST IN: ‘Take our Border Back’ convoy has departed from Norfolk, Virginia for Eagle Pass to protest against Biden’s open border. The organizer, Craig Hudgins, says he wants to show his support for the Texas National Guard as they defend Texas. Hudgins estimated that a whopping 40,000 truckers would come support with them.”
Continuing, Rugg also quoted Mr. Hudgins as saying that he heard 40,000 truckers aim to participate in the “Take Our Country Back” convoy. Rugg also quoted Mr. Hudgins as saying that the protest is to be peaceful, saying, “This is about being a peaceful demonstration. We do not want our National Guard guys to take the brunt of what is going on.”
