During a visit to Atlanta, President Joe Biden delivered a speech at the Morehouse College commencement ceremony. Morehouse is considered a historically black college or university where Martin Luther King Jr. once received his education.
However, not everyone in attendance was pleased with Biden being their keynote speaker. Several students in the crowd could be seen turning their backs away from the president as he delivered remarks to the class of 2024. Reportedly, one of them could be seen wearing a keffiyeh scarf, which protestors have worn to demonstrate solidarity with Palestine.
Biden has also been criticized for making comments in his speech that have been described as “divisive” and inflammatory toward race relations. Conservative commentator Paul A. Szypula shared a clip of Biden’s speech with the caption, “Joe Biden just told graduates at Morehouse College in Georgia that America hates them because they’re black. This divisive rhetoric is exactly why Biden is losing support of the black community.”
Biden stated, “You started college just as George Floyd was murdered. And there was a reckoning on race. It’s natural to wonder, Democracy you hear about actually works for you. What is democracy? And black men are being killed in the street. What is democracy?
The president went on, “The trail of broken promises still leave black communities behind what is democracy? You have to be ten times better than anyone else to get a fair shot. Most of all, what does it mean? As you’ve heard before, you’d be a black man who loves his country. Even if it doesn’t love him back in equal measure.”
Many have suggested that Biden’s appearance at Morehouse was aimed to bolster his waning support among black voters. Recent reports have indicated that former President Trump’s support with black voters has more than doubled since the 2020 election, shooting up from 9 percent to roughly 22 percent.
While Biden still has a commanding lead among black voters, the drastic shift toward Donald Trump is a troubling sign for the Biden campaign, particularly in crucial swing states where Trump is leading in many. Watch footage of one Morehouse student refusing to face Joe Biden below:
Further detailing Biden’s declining support from the black community, The American Tribune reported on comments from black Chicago residents who are observing their community flee from the Democratic party as conditions worsen in the Windy City.
Chicago resident P-Rae Easley explained how residents are “fed up” with liberal politics amid factors such as rampant illegal immigration, crime, and inflation. “The city is completely fed up with the Democratic Party. We are stepping over illegals every day. They are now trying to break into people’s homes. Gas is through the roof, groceries are through the roof, violence is up. Nothing is comfortable here under Democratic leadership. We’re all moving on,” said Easley.
Easley added that she believes many black Chicagoans will switch over to supporting the Republican Party. She said, “I think that they’re definitely going to vote for Donald Trump, because we can’t afford to keep subsidizing the illegals who are coming here. … People are proudly stating that they’re going to vote for the first time in their lives, and they’re going to run to the polls to vote for Donald John Trump.”
