Fringe progressive Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) called for reparations to illegal immigrants and their families for alleged trauma caused by the Trump administration’s ICE operations. Speaking at the conclusion of her hearing titled “Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Attack on Children,” she demanded “some form of reparation” and “offensive actions around prosecutions” against those inflicting harm, including dragging them before Congress for accountability.
For context, as a ranking member of the House Immigration Subcommittee, Jayapal said she would pursue these measures if Democrats regain control and she becomes chair. She cited her opposition to funding ICE without reforms, accusing agents of killing citizens and terrorizing communities
Rep. Pramila Jayapal began her unhinged comments by saying, “We are going to have to have some form of reparation for the kids and the families that have been traumatized through all of this. If I am chair of the immigration subcommittee, we will be pursuing all of these pieces.”
Still not done, she alleged, “We need offensive actions around prosecutions. We need real accountability because at the end of the day, the people that have been inflicting this harm need to be prosecuted. They need to be brought before us, and they need to be held accountable for the trauma that they have created. There’s a lot that’s on our plate, but I want you to know how seriously we take this issue and how committed I am.”
In a statement regarding her vote against the House-passed stopgap bill, she doubled down on her absurd remarks, saying, “I have been clear since the start of the appropriations process; I will not vote to give Trump’s ICE or CBP another cent without major reforms. ICE and CBP agents have killed American citizens on the streets, terrorized communities, and forever traumatized families and children.”
Wrapping up her comments, Jayapal raved, ” Republicans in the House and Senate continue to refuse to implement any meaningful reforms — it appears they want ICE and CBP to continue their lawless reign of terror against American families and communities.”

Jayapal has a history of attacking ICE. “I don’t think that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, for the majority part — supermajority across the country, like that ICE is coming in, masked men on our streets, Elizabeth, kidnapping people who are hardworking folks who have just been doing their jobs, people who are here on legal visas, U.S. citizens, they have kidnapped and detained people,” she said in a recent appearance.

She also claimed, “They are pushing people to the ground. We have a militarized force on our streets. That’s what ICE has turned into, and I’m going to continue to do everything I can to push back against that. … I have no rhetoric that I regret. Nothing that I have said is rhetoric that incites violence. All of it is about what is actually happening.”
