“Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo recently weighed in on the reaction she has observed from Hollywood in the aftermath of the failed assassination attempt that nearly claimed Donald Trump’s life. de Matteo blasted her colleagues in the entertainment industry who fail to demonstrate “one undertone of peace,” which is ironic for the party that claims to represent “inclusivity, love, and peace.”
Following gunfire from 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was likely millimeters away from fatally wounding former President Donald Trump, there has been an abhorrent reaction from many leftists across the nation. Many have expressed their wishes that Crooks would not have missed when taking shots at the Republican presidential nominee.
de Matteo noted that, as a liberal, she does not understand how the party has evolved so drastically. “Everybody has their right to their opinion, and they have freedom of speech, so here we are,” she said, before adding, “But — I’m a liberal. I’m a liberal who does not understand how the left has become so rebellious with not one undertone of peace, love, harmony, compassion.”
She emphasized her point, pointing out that historically liberals have advocated for peace and love. However, in recent years, it appears that those themes have been traded for far more hostile rhetoric. “They’re supposed to be the Party of inclusivity, of love, of peace, and all of a sudden these are the rioters. These are the mean-spirited folks out there. And I don’t understand that,” de Matteo said.
Jack Black’s bandmate in Tenacious D, Kyle Gas, recently went viral for stating he wished the rally shooter didn’t miss during a concert. de Matteo addressed the incident, stating, “It wasn’t so much that I was opposed to them saying anything. I think it was more jarring to hear an audience cheer, and to hear a portion of America be on board with death. And that, I don’t understand.”
de Matteo then discusses the pervasive issue of Trump Derangement Syndrome, often referred to as the acronym TDS, which describes an irrational hatred of former President Donald Trump. “Say what you want about Trump, and I understand that a lot of people have Trump Derangement Syndrome — I was one of them — but people can change, and it’s not that Trump changed. I changed. I did my research, and I paid more attention to what was going on,” she said.
Despite the onslaught of calls for violence against the Republican presidential candidate, particularly from celebrities and other prominent figures, de Matteo noted there are many “quiet” Trump supporters who just aren’t as vocal because they fear the consequences of voicing their opinions. She said, “There are a lot of quiet Trump supporters.”

The actress also commented on Robert DeNiro, a staunch opponent of Trump, who appeared outside of the Manhattan courthouse in May during Trump’s trial. “I wonder how much these actors got paid to endorse Biden at this point. I’m curious — I wonder if De Niro got paid a locations fee, because he had to travel to the courtroom to do that,” she stated.
