Fans of the Buffalo Bills are known for their dedication and crazy behavior in support of the hometown team. This weekend, fans of the team jumped into action to help clear Highmark Stadium of a frigid layer of snow in preparation for Monday night’s game. Some fans had a lot of fun with the task, with one in particular making a slide out of a show shoot as he used the team’s stadium as a playground.
In a video that has since gone viral, the famous fan can be seen throwing down his shovel, removing his shirt, and diving into the snow chute on his way down to the lower levels of the stadium. Other fans who had joined him in taking up the call to rid the stadium of snow can be seen and heard laughing at the sight of the shirtless man streaming past them.
The Bills were scheduled to face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, but due to snow making the stadium unable to host the game, the contest was moved to Monday afternoon. The Buffalo Bills knew that something had to be done to get the game to happen on time, so they put up a bat signal of sorts to get their fans ready to help.
The team offered $20 an hour to any fan who was able to make the treacherous journey through snow and ice to get to the stadium and begin shoveling snow so that the arena would be ready for fans during the game. Before and after pictures look shockingly dissimilar, proving that the rag-tag team of shovelers did a wonderful job.
Fans were also given free food to aid them in working during the near-blizzard conditions and were not made to carry their own shovel. The team provided all of the necessary equipment; fans were only asked to bring the manpower.
All of this hard work seemed to pay off last night, as the Bills went on to defeat the Steelers by a score of 31-17. In commanding fashion, the Bills are on their way to the next round of the playoffs and have a shot to take down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
After the game, quarterback Josh Allen made it clear that the postponement of the game played no role in his preparation, as he feels the team would have gotten the job done on any day. According to ESPN, he said, “People keep saying that’s what we wanted. We had no call in that. We would have played yesterday, would have played Saturday would have played Friday, it wouldn’t have mattered. We would have come out here and played when we were told to play.”
Playing against the Chiefs will not be an easy task next weekend, with Kansas City having two extra days to prepare since they played on Saturday. Allen discuss that challenge, saying, “We’re a step behind already. It’s going to take a team effort. We know the type of team that they are, obviously the type of quarterback that they have in Pat over there.”
