Roughly two years after the Washington Redskins became the Commanders, reports indicate that the team could be returning to its former logo. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) recently indicated that there are talks to bring back the likeness of a Blackfeet tribe chief known as White Calf. Daines argued that the logo could be used to benefit Native American culture and was an example of DEI overreach.
Speaking to Fox News, Daines said, “Now we were calling out leaders in a case of really woke gone wrong. The irony, they were canceling Native American culture as the DEI movement went way too far. Look, this is a this is honoring a Blackfeet chief who was born in Montana. He’s highly esteemed the Blackfeet tribe of Montana, their current chairman and the tribal council signed a letter in strong support to bring the local logo back.”
Daines argued that the logo actually honors Native Americans in contrasting the argument from progressives that the former name and logo are racist. “It honors Indian country. So we’ve had good discussions with the NFL and with the Commanders,” the Montana senator said. Furthermore, he claimed that there are current discussions on reviving the logo.
“There’s good faith negotiations going forward that’s going to allow this logo to be used again, perhaps revenues going the foundation to help Native Americans and sport and so forth, making good progress, and based on the good faith negotiations, I made decision support of this bill yesterday the committee, I know that they have put a plaque up in Northwest stadium honoring Wetzel, and the longer, it great to see you back on the helmets again,” Daines said.
Daines’ commentary sparked commentary from users on social media weighing in on the implications of the possible return of the logo. “BREAKING: IT APPEARS DISCUSSIONS ARE UNDERWAY ABOUT THE #COMMANDERS POTENTIALLY USING THE REDSKINS’ OLD LOGO. 🤯 Senator Steve Daines says that the proceeds would go to help benefit the tribe. Washington fans have been pushing for this to happen…” ML football wrote on X.
“It’s about time. Native tribal schools used the Redskin as a mascot. It was considered a sign of respect. Most Natives are fine with the name. It’s only liberals who wanted to impose their values on the rest of us,” one person wrote. “I’ve said this all along. Cut the local indigenous peoples in on all profits from merch. Also, name the team after the tribe and profit share. The Washington (insert tribe) + either the old logo with their blessing, or one of their choosing. Would be dope for all involved,” another person wrote.
“That can only improve their franchise. They chose the name Redskins in the beginning. Fierce fighters respected far and wide. I thought it was racist toward to the indigenous people, who I believe most of
who were not offended. This was just another WOKE idea, and experiment to solve a problem that never existed,” another wrote.

However, there were some who were skeptical about the revival of the Redskins logo. “There is 0 chance the league will allow this. So forget about it. Can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.Unfortunately the logo and name are done. They should have kept everything about the jerseys the same as old except the logo on the helmet and the wordmark on the jersey,” they said.
