It’s not just President “Slow Joe” Biden who is having trouble speaking in public and staying in top mental shape: on the GOP side of the aisle, Senator and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell appears to have just suffered a medical episode of some sort while at a press conference.
In the video of the event, one which quickly went viral on Twitter, the Senator, who is now eighty-one years old, froze for a long time and looked disoriented. Sen. McConnell’s younger colleagues, when they realized what was happening, jumped into action and steadied the senator, who then said that he was fine, before quickly terminating the press conference.
Watch that here, in the clip of the incident posted by Tennessee GOP stalwart Robby Starbuck:
Legions of commenters joined in raising questions about what they saw and commenting on the health of America’s political figures. One, for example, said, “What happened to him? He’s one of my least favorite people but definitely don’t wish him ill health or harm.”
Another argued that America needs politicians who are physically and mentally fit to serve, saying, “The Senate body needs to ask Mitch to step aside and appoint a new Minority Leader of the Senate…immediately..Not only for his well being, but to send a message to the Ds and the MSM..that is WE ARE FIT TO SERVE.”
Similarly, an additional commenter said that Sen. McConnell’s health is in a bad way and so he needs to retire, writing, “That’s an absent seizure! His health has been very poor the last couple years. He needs to step down and be replaced. Time to retire.”
Relatedly, another commenter argued that this incident is an example of why certain limits, particularly age limits, should be established. That commenter said, “Age limits are needed. Let’s not pretend that humans don’t decline physically & mentally over time. The country needs the brightest, fittest & most capable people running things. Unless the goal is to just throw in the towel”
Still another connected this incident to Sen. McConnell’s recent medical event and hospitalization, saying, “He hit his head several weeks ago when he fell. You’ve got to think there’s something wrong that needs to be checked out.”
That fall and hospitalization incident occurred in early March. Announcing it and explaining what happened, McConnell spokesman David Popp said, “Leader McConnell tripped at a dinner event Wednesday evening and has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated for a concussion. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and treatment. The Leader is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”
As of the time this article was written, neither McConnell nor his press office had commented on the incident. The most recent tweet from his account, one which his press account retweeted, says, “The Biden Administration is trying to convince the American people that “Bidenomics” is making their lives easier. But working families know the truth: Washington Democrats’ soaring inflation has made it harder to make ends meet. That’s the reality of ‘Bidenomics’.”
