In an appearance on Fox News, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) praised President Trump’s military operation that captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro on January 3, calling it “surgical, precise, and efficient” and a “good thing” that his fellow Democrats should celebrate despite partisanship.
Additionally, he highlighted prior Democratic criticism of Maduro, which included Biden’s $25M bounty, the suffering under his socialist regime that drove over 500,000 Venezuelans to the U.S., and Venezuelans now celebrating. Closing out his comments, Fetterman saluted the military.
Starting his comments, the Democratic senator said, “I don’t know if you’re saying it’s like, yeah. I mean, for me, I think, I don’t know why we can’t just acknowledge that it’s been a good thing, what’s happened? I mean, I mean, I’ve seen the speeches from whether it’s leader Schumer or kinds of past tweets from President Biden.”
Building on this point, he noted, “No, we all wanted this man gone, and now he is gone. I think we should really appreciate exactly what happened here, and I think we did, just as I’ve saluted our military, what they’ve done that was really surgical and precise and very efficient,” adding, “So why can’t we celebrate these kinds of things? And I’m open to the good opportunities that bring a better future for Venezuela after this happened.”
“I mean, look at the kinds of places that they understand the good thing that happened here. They’re celebrating this kind of thing,” the reasonable senator pointed out, “And now we want to remember the kinds of chaos and the suffering that Medora brought to Venezuela, why can’t we all just call that a good development now and be open to better kinds of outcomes for that nation?”
Fetterman added, “You know, our nation was forced to absorb over 500,000 Venezuelans. So now that’s the kind of chaos, and it’s, I think, it was appropriate and surgical. This wasn’t a war. This wasn’t boots on the ground, and in that kind of way, this was surgical and very efficient.”
Still not done, he noted, “And they want to celebrate our military. And now they’re also putting him on a trial. They didn’t assassinate him. They didn’t disappear him. He’s actually on, you know, our TV right now, and they’re going to give them a trial right now.”

Bringing his comments to a close, the Pebsylcvania Democrat decalred, “And it wasn’t less than a year ago, President Biden raised, raised the bounty for $25 million less than a year ago, and now here, here, we’re in a better way to now, and that’s why I think, as a Democrat, you know, just because it’s a different party here, it’s like, I’m open to better opportunities for Venezuela.”

Concluding, Fetterman wrapped up his comments and pointed to the upcoming trial, saying, “No one really liked to live under that, and they had to flee that. And now here we have a way forward. And now there’s a trial, a public trial, and now here. So that’s the way it works.”
