On Monday, January 27, actress Selena Gomez posted a since-deleted video to Instagram in which she bemoaned the current state of President Donald Trump’s stance on illegal immigration, which is for Tom Homan and ICE to carry out mass arrests and deportations. She broke down in tears over the matter.
The Trump Administration has, for reference, taken a much tougher line on illegal immigration than other administrations. Speaking during Trump’s first days on immigration policy, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security revealed that the U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and other federal agencies are being mobilized to carry out immigration raids and similar law enforcement efforts,
That spokesperson said, “Mobilizing these law enforcement officials will help fulfill President Trump’s promise to the American people to carry out mass deportations. For decades, efforts to find and apprehend illegal aliens have not been given proper resources. This is a major step in fixing that problem.”
In any case, appeared to be the spark for Gomez’s breakdown is that the President of Colombia had initially tried refusing to accept deportation flights from America, but then quickly backed down when Trump and his administration threatened 50% tariffs, visa cancellations, and the like. A similar situation played out with the Mexican president.
In the video posted to Instagram, Gomez, who has no political power and is just an actress, apologized to an indefinite set of people for indefinite reasons. Tears streaming down her face, made puffy by tears, as she did so, Gomez wailed, “I just want to say that I’m so sorry!”
Continuing, she claimed that her “people” are being attacked, though she didn’t clarify what that meant, given that she is an American citizen. She was likely referring to her Mexican heritage. In any case, keeping the wailing up, she said, “All my people are getting attacked!”
Concluding, she said she’ll try to do “everything” she can, though what that might be given that she’s a former child actor ratner than anyone with political power. She said, “The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything. I promise.” Watch her here:

Fox News’s Martha MacCallum roasted Gomez over the since-deleted Instagram breakdown. She said, “The actress Selena Gomez going for, I guess, another Academy Award or Golden Globe nomination here, sobbing on Instagram earlier today about what she says she’s seeing out there and she talks about children getting attacked.”
Continuing, speaking to Tim Ryan, MacCallum said, “She took that off Instagram, Tim. But she said, ‘Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.’ And we’ve seen some of this backlash from other folks and on The View as well. But then we hear, you know, governors in Massachusetts and in Colorado saying, ‘Well, you know, so far we’re okay with the people that you’ve kicked out of the country. Thank you very much.'”
