In some absolutely massive news announced on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy said that the DOT would be responding in a strict and severe fashion to the horrific recent crash in California caused by that state issuing a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) to an illegal alien who killed three in a DUI crash.
Explaining as much, Secretary Duffy noted that he is “about to pull $160 million from California,” a major loss of funding for the state, and is considering revoking the state’s legal authority to issue CDLs over its continuing refusal to stop issuing such licenses to illegal aliens, which Duffy and others have framed as the sanctuary state putting Americans at risk.
So, describing the harsh consequences that Gavin Newsom’s California will be facing over its refusal to follow DOT rules and stop issuing CDLs to illegal aliens, Secretary Duffy told Maria Bartiromo, “Gavin Newsom has thumbed his nose at us. He’s refused to comply with the rules that have come from DOT.”
Continuing, he explained what California has so far refused to do is, “stop issuing these licenses, number one, and number two, go back and review all the licenses that you have issued and make sure it’s been done legally. Gavin Newsom has said, ‘no.'”
Moving on from that to describing the consequences that California will face for its intransigence, he said, “So one, I’m about to pull $160 million from California, and as we pull more money, we also have the option of pulling California’s ability to issue commercial driver’s licenses.”
Absolutely hammering woke California Governor Gavin Newsom for how he has acted so far, Secretary Duffy then said, “Gavin Newsom cares more about illegals getting commercial driver’s licenses than he does the citizens of his own state and the safety of Americans. It’s shameful.”
Concluding, the DOT Secretary vowed to hold California and Newsom accountable, saying, “He’s been lying about what he’s been doing, and again, we’re going to we’re going to fight tooth and nail under President Trump’s administration to make sure that we hold states like California accountable.”

Speaking the day before on “America Reports” with John Roberts, Secretary Duffy said much the same thing about Newsom’s responsibility, saying, “Had Gavin followed our rules per DOT, this guy would have never been on the road. Three more people would be alive.”
He added, on that point, “It’s nice to see Gavin tap dance in a tweet, good for him, but the truth is we do set the guidelines by which licenses can be issued. We sent that guidance out. Gavin Newsom said, ‘I’m not going to follow it, I’m going to allow this foreigner to get an upgraded license.’ That was Gavin Newsom’s choice.”
Continuing, he explained, “The states issue commercial drivers licenses. We give the guidance, they issue them. I gave the guidance. Gavin Newsom didn’t follow it. And three people are now dead because he refused to follow the rules that come from DOT. So, again, nice effort to try to pass the buck. But again, this is really simple stuff. Keep your citizens safe. Keep foreigners off the roads, especially those who aren’t trained. Stop giving licenses illegally to people who are not in the country lawfully. Very simple stuff, John.”
