WATCH: Sanctuary City Mayor Tries and Fails to Spell “Eagles” While Attempting to Get Chant Going

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is back in the news because she had a total meltdown when she got rebuked by taxpayers for how she was spending and wasting their tax dollars on various forms of nonsense, and so a clip of her trying and failing to spell the word “Eagles” as resurfaced to make her look even more absurd and ridiculous.

For reference, Parker’s recent freakout came when constituents pushed back on yet another tax she was levying on them, with the woke mayor declaring, “But how dare you tell me, as mayor of this city, to tell the people in this city, that we cannot and should not enact what is one of the most limited powers that we have. And that is to decide how we will drive revenue to the School District of Philadelphia.”

In any case, the video of her being utterly unable to spell a basic word came back on January 19 of 2025, when the Eagles were travelling to a playoffs game against the Los Angeles Rams, with the mayor giving a news conference just hours before the game was to be played.

During that press conference, the mayor, who was standing with city hall staff and had deemed taxpayer-funded travel to the game “essential”, tried to get a chant going. With herself at the microphone and her officials standing around her, the Democrat declared, “Listen we gotta do this.”

She then tried and failed to get an impromptu chant going. Wearing her team-colored beanie and scarf, she began, “Let me hear you all sing!” She then let loose with her impromptu chant, saying, “E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles!” Oops.

As if realizing her mistake, she awkwardly stepped away from the podium, saying, “Let’s Go Birds!” However, she tried to make light of the error when commenting on it later on, after the Eagles won and advanced, saying, “We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy that I never have, especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right.”

The video then resurfaced on X as Parker went viral for the taxation speech incident, with a tweet by the large “End Wokeness” account getting picked back up by commenters who wanted to slam Parker. “Philly Mayor Cherelle Parker tried to start an Eagles chant but can’t spell the word. Yikes,” the account said. Watch the clip here:

In her recent speech on taxation that caused such a stir, Mayor Parker said, “The city of San Francisco, the home of Uber and Lyft, they’ve had a rideshare tax since 2020. So wait a minute. This is 2026, the industry, it’s thriving, it’s bustling, and we’re excited about business thriving and bustling in the city of Philadelphia. We are open for business here. But how dare you tell me, as mayor of this city, to tell the people in this city, that we cannot and should not enact what is one of the most limited powers that we have. And that is to decide how we will drive revenue to the School District of Philadelphia.”

Predictably, as we reported, she got skewered online for it. “That’s what the King of England told Boston back in the 1700s,” one user replied. Another wrote, “Taxation without representation. That’s how the revolution started.” Someone else noted the hypocrisy of the left’s “No King” anti-Trump protests in light of the mayor’s comment, saying, “So no kings, right? Or something like that?”
