WATCH: Sanctuary City Mayor Throws Total Tantrum After ICE Agents Blitz into His City to Arrest Illegal Aliens, Defend Themselves with Tear Gas

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson escalated his public feud with U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino after federal agents used tear gas and pepper spray on protesters during operations targeting criminal illegal aliens in Chicago, a city notorious for its huge illegal alien population because it is a sanctuary city.

The far-left, sanctuary city Mayor Johnson complained: “We will not be lectured about public safety when you have individuals who are masked and who are pepper-spraying children, tear-gassing our police officers, the chaos and cruelty will continue until we get Bovino out of our city.”

A viral X post countered that Johnson was “throwing a tantrum” because agents only released tear gas after a “crazed mob of activists attacked them.” This continues the January 2026 online clash: Bovino vowed agents would remain “for YEARS,” former Mayor Lori Lightfoot warned of a “day of reckoning,” and Johnson endorsed naming a city snowplow “Abolish ICE.”

The irritating Chicago Mayor whined, “We will not be lectured about public safety when you have individuals who are masked and who are pepper-spraying children, tear-gassing our police officers, the chaos and cruelty will continue until we get Bovino out of our city.”

Reacting to the situation, a viral post noted, “Brandon Johnson is throwing a tantrum because @CMDROpAtLargeCA and his team had the audacity to arrest foreign criminals in Chicago — and only released tear gas after a crazed mob of activists attacked them.”

As we reported at the American Tribune, this is far from the only interaction between the former U.S. Border Patrol Commander and Chicago politicians. “If you think we’re done with Chicago, you’d better check yourself before you wreck yourself. Don’t call it a comeback; we’re gonna be here for years,” Bovino posted.

In a desperate attempt to seem clever, Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said, “Glory hound Greg Bovino cannot resist acting a fool in the third largest media market. The actions of the CBP militia under his command have been unconstitional [sic] and shameful. Hey, Greg, your day of reckoning is fast approaching.”

“Don’t worry, Chicago, we will be here for YEARS! Despite calls for violence against our agents, the brave men and women of the United States Border Patrol have come together and developed serious plans to help Chicago rid their streets of criminal illegal aliens. We work for YOU,” he fired back.

Current Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson entered the fray with a tweet related to a public poll to name a snowplow. “‘Abolish ICE’ has my full endorsement for the name of one of Chicago’s next Snow Plows. Remember to submit your choice by January 10th, 2026!” he stated.

Replying, Gregory Bovio joked, “Oh oh, I’ve got a nomination for the mayor. Name the plow ‘Reality Check’ and paint it green while your [sic] at it. Johnson obsesses over Border Patrol it seems!!” Prompting Jophnson to complain, “And reality check, Greg: Chicagoans vote on the snow plow names. The same people who want you out of our city.”
