[WATCH] Ron DeSantis Calls Out Biden’s “Farce” of a Border Deal, Claims Crisis Will Worsen

Florida Governor and former GOP primary candidate Ron DeSantis recently weighed in on the Senate border deal endorsed by Joe Biden.  DeSantis labeled the bill a “farce,” explaining that the ensuing migrant crisis will only continue to worsen under the current leadership.

As many Americans have condemned the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border, the president stated he would “shut down the border” if Congress could produce bipartisan immigration reform.  “For too long, we all know the border’s been broken,” Biden stated in a press release. “It’s long past time to fix it.”

“What’s been negotiated would — if passed into law — be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country,” Biden added. “It would give me, as president, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”

Following Biden’s announcement, Gov. DeSantis took to X, posting a video of his commentary on the “farce” of a deal.  The Florida governor claimed that contrary to the president’s statement, Biden already has the authority to shut down the border if he chose to.

“Stopping the invasion at our border is a matter of will. It doesn’t require a so-called deal that codifies into law illegal entries in excess of 1.8 million per year and provides incentives for future illegal immigration,” DeSantis posted in the caption of his video message.

“This border deal is a farce,” DeSantis said in the video. “Joe Biden already has the authority to shut the border down. He could declare a national emergency. He could stop the invasion cold if he wanted to. He does not want to.”

The former Republican primary candidate alleged that the ongoing illegal immigration crisis is “destroying” American sovereignty while weakening the nation overall.  DeSantis goes on to claim the Biden border deal is only “green-lighting” millions of illegal immigrants to unlawfully cross the southern border into the interior of the United States.

“This so-called deal purports to give him tools so that he could actually close the border. The reality is, is it’s green-lighting up to 5000 illegals every single day,” he added. “That’s 1.8 million plus over the course of a year, which they’re codifying into laws, saying that’s an appropriate number of illegal entries.”

“Our policy should reflect that, that we do not want people coming to this country illegally,” DeSantis continued. “We should not be giving benefits and work permits to people that have come to this country illegally.”

DeSantis continued to illustrate that the migrant crisis is ultimately the product of failed political leadership within the highest levels of government.  The governor maintains that, as a nation, we should not allow anyone to enter the country illegally.

“So Biden has the authority. He doesn’t have the will. He doesn’t have political philosophy to want to actually solve the problem. Meanwhile, the country continues to get weaker, and the problem is going to continue to persist. So this is a question of leadership.”
