As we approach the 2024 presidential election, the topic of Joe Biden’s age and cognitive ability has come under increased scrutiny, particularly amid the findings of Special Counsel Robert Hur. Throughout Biden’s presidency, he has demonstrated an apparent declining mental acuity through his behavior in numerous public appearances.
Popular X account RNC Research, which the Republican National Committee manages, recently shared a five-minute video illustrating why the special counsel expressed skepticism on Biden’s mental acuity. RNC Research’s caption read, “Here are five straight minutes that show exactly why the special counsel noted Biden’s diminished mental fitness.”
The clip features innumerable instances throughout Biden’s presidency where he stumbles incoherently through speeches, displays lapses in memory, and has a general look of confusion that many would assign to an elderly individual struggling with dementia.
In fact, as Americans have witnessed this concerning behavior from the president over the past several years, many have questioned Biden’s physical and mental capability to lead the executive branch. For example, former White House Doctor Ronny Jackson recently did so, suggesting that Biden’s mental health is failing and the president might need to be removed via the 25th Amendment.

However, while many Americans have made this observation, the commentary from Special Counsel Robert Hur affirmed these concerns in an official Department of Justice investigation. While the special counsel did not bring charges, the expressed concern about Biden’s memory and elderly age have inflicted palpable damage on the president’s reelection campaign.
“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” the report states. “Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt.”
When an official government report is concerned about the acting president’s memory, it is bound to shake the confidence of the American public in their supposed leader. Subsequently, Democrats have gone into panic mode, trying to perform damage control on the “devastating” implications of the special counsel report.
“This is beyond devastating,” said a Democratic operative, speaking on condition of anonymity to talk candidly about Biden’s shortcomings. “It confirms every doubt and concern that voters have. If the only reason they didn’t charge him is because he’s too old to be charged, then how can he be president of the United States?”
Another anonymous Democratic House member expressed how the predicament is particularly challenging. “It’s a nightmare,” said the anonymous politician. They added that “it weakens President Biden electorally, and Donald Trump would be a disaster and an authoritarian.”
Biden publicly addressed the findings of the report, raging at the conclusion for discussing the allegations that he had trouble recalling the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. “There’s even reference that I don’t remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that. Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself: ‘wasn’t any of their damn business,’” Biden stated. “Frankly, when I was asked a question I talked to myself was it any of their damn business?”
