In an utterly infuriating display of his craven soul, Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) worked with Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) during a joint appearance on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” program to try and tamp down on conservative fury over the leftist celebration that came with the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk, saying that those who celebrated shouldn’t lose their jobs over it.
As background, nearly as soon as the Turning Point USA founder, beloved podcaster, and close Trump ally was murdered in cold blood by a radical leftist in Utah on Wednesday, September 10, leftists online started celebrating. Everyone from judges and military officers to nurses and kindergarten teachers joined in, cheering on the murder of a moderate conservative for his political beliefs.
In response to that sickening display of support for political murder, angry conservatives, particularly on X, started documenting the leftists they saw celebrating, and using grassroots information discovery and sharing networks to find out where those leftists worked so that they could be reported to their employers.
Many of the employers, either outraged by the celebration of political murder themselves or furious at the lack of discretion shown by their employees, responded to the news that their employees were celebrating horrible things by firing them, with hundreds if not thousands of firings piling up as those who celebrated assassination got their comeupance.
It was in response to all of that outrage and chatter online that Sen. Lankford responded on “Face the Nation,” saying, when asked if he thinks it is a good thing that employers are firing people over their celebrations of Charlie Kirk’s death, “This is about protecting the individual businesses.”
Continuing, Sen. Lankford attacked the conservative pushback on people who want to seemingly kill them as mere “cancel culture,” and argued it shouldn’t be a force in American politics, totally ignoring the concerns of his constituents about those who are celebrating murder online as he did so.
He said, in that infuriating segment, “What people are seeing is this cancel culture that still persists, that if you voice something that becomes a big push back from the community, the employer will step up and say, ‘Hey, you’re about to kill our business based on what you’re saying online.’”

That’s when far-left Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) chimed in and agreed with Sen. Lankford, saying, “Cancel culture is a real challenge to us, to balancing free speech with positions of responsibility. He added that he was “urging people to think twice before they post things that are outrageous online,” presumably because he was upset leftists were being fired than that he was horrified by the celebrations of assassination.
Watch Lankford here:
Commenters who saw his craven display of total cowardice were infuriated and outraged by what they saw. One, for example, responded to the matter by saying, in response to the clip posted on X by “Face the Nation,” “No Republican who doesn’t have a big problem with liberals calling for the death of conservatives needs to be in office. James Lankford is up for reelection in 2028 and he needs to be primaried.”
Another wrote, on the same post from “Face the Nation” on X, “@SenatorLankford you pander to the left like the POS you are. I hope OK sees fit to primary and replace you. BTW it’s not ‘cancel culture’ to fire employees that celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death, asswipe. It’s ‘anti-assassination culture’. Big difference. GFY.”
Yet another said, on much the same note, “How can they not see the difference between making a comment and celebrating the murder of a fellow American? They’re free to say whatever they want, they are NOT free from the social consequences. If you think publicly professing that you’re an absolute lunatic is not going to have an effect on your job…the fact that you are spiritually and mentally bankrupt…good luck with that.”
