In a scorcher of a House of Representatives on the national debt situation, namely the massive national debt load and whether to increase the debt ceiling or not, a debate that occurred back in late May of 2023, “Squad” member and hyper-progressive Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was decimated by Republican Rep. Chip Roy.
AOC, during her speech on the House floor, first blamed Republicans for, in her view, not being present in sufficient numbers for the debate on the debt ceiling issue. She then launched into a tirade about how really it’s the Republicans who spend too much money, namely on the military, and that they are responsible for the debt situation because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Absurdly, AOC also suggested that it is the height of lunacy to say that the Democrats spend too much money because, though a lot is spent, it is spent on entitlement programs that many people tend to like, such as Social Security and public schooling. She ignored that those programs are expensive and might be overly so, even if generally liked.
In any case, beginning her angry tirade, AOC thundered that her Republican colleagues are at fault for not showing up in sufficient, in her view, numbers, for the spat over the worrisome, to many Americans, debt ceiling and national debt. She said, “You know, we’re here on the last day of this session. Republicans have decided to skip town!”
Continuing, she went on to blame them for the debt ceiling issue and claim that the debt ceiling spat is about GOP payment dodging rather than the dangerous fiscal state of the country, saying, “But what this debt ceiling debate really is about is the fact that they have run up a bill! Republicans have run up a bill that they now do not want to pay.”
She then insisted that the tax cuts and military spending are responsible despite the military being a mere fraction of the amount spent on entitlement programs. She said, “They have run up this bill with extremely excessive military spending. They have run up this bill with extraordinary tax cuts for the wealthiest people in this country. And now, when it comes down to, time to pay for this bill, they do not want to pay it.”
Next, AOC claimed Democrats don’t spend too much because they spend on popular programs, a ridiculous claim, saying, “And not only that, but they are accusing Democrats of saying we spend too much. For anyone that wants to entertain that thought, I ask you to think about the last time a person said, has said in this country, that the government does too much for them, that their Social Security check was too high, that teachers are paid too much. When was the last time . . . anyone has heard or seen that?
Rep. Roy hilariously demolished AOC in response. Answering her question, he fired back, “When was the last time anyone is heard or seen that? I’ll say it. I’ll say it right here. I don’t want the government doing most of the things that the government is doing to interfere with the ability of the American people to carry out their lives, federal, state and local. What was the last time you had a bureaucrat show up and you said Oh, joy. Thank you. Really glad there’s a bureaucrat here.”
Watch Roy demolish AOC with hilarious gusto here:
He added that the state of America’s debt and defense situation is far more important than entitlement spending, saying, “What was the last time you were thankful for $32 trillion in debt, $100,000, almost, for every man, woman, and child in America? Anybody thankful for $32 trillion in debt? Anybody thankful for a border that’s wide open, be exploited by cartels, what fentanyl comes in and kills that kills our children? Everybody thankful for that? Department of Homeland Security that doesn’t actually secure the homeland?”
Roy also noted that the size of the government is beyond worrisome. He said,”Anybody thankful for the IRS knocking on your door auditing the poor of the minorities three to five times more. People thankful for that. Are you thankful for the EPA or the Department of Interior that sent a man to prison because he had some pawns on his ranch in Montana? We have a government that is weaponized against the American people and is undermining our liberties. And they want more of it.”
Continuing, he noted, “My colleagues on the other side of the aisle want more, more government. They want more taxes, they want more spending. They want more bureaucrats knocking on your door.” He added, “I want to be very clear, and I want to be clear to my colleagues on this side of the aisle. Anybody making a deal right now? $4 trillion? Are you out of your frigging mind?”
