Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) recently stood alongside various other House Democrats, harassing an employee with the Department of Education (DOE) who was charged with preventing the mob from storming the government agency building. The liberal lawmakers were protesting news that cuts may be enacted against the agency.
Reportedly, around 30 House Democrats showed up to the DOE headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Friday, demanding to speak with acting Secretary Denise L. Carter. However, a security staffer stood in their way outside the building, refusing to let them in. Footage of the incident captured by Newsmax showed Rep. Waters, 86, shouting in the man’s face.
“Look them in the eye, come on, hold your face up ! Look at them! Let them see you!” Waters said to the man standing in front of the door. The security staffer stood still with his arms folded, refusing to acknowledge Waters’ demands. “This is him! Look at him,” Waters continued. “What’s your name? Tell us your name! Give me that ID again!”
Visibly frustrated with the scene in front of him, the man responded, “I showed you the ID.” Then, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) proceeded to demand his ID. “I haven’t seen it, I haven’t seen it,” she said, before the man shrugged, refusing to oblige her. Other footage from the incident showed other Democratic leaders arguing with the staffer.
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) also demanded access to the building. “No, no, no… we’re allowed to go to the visitors’ desk,” he said. Waters then claimed, “We’re trying to save your job! You won’t have a job if we don’t help you. You won’t have any place to send your kids.” The staffer then argued that the situation was beginning to feel “dangerous.”
Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT) then interjected, “I’m going to stop you right there.” She added, “No, no, no, I’m going to stop you right there and put it on the record — you did not get a dangerous response here… so I’m not going to let you put that narrative out there.” Waters then argued that he should be “prepared to stand here for 24 hours with us.” The California Democrat continued pressing the staffer. “Are you prepared to stand here all night if we decide to stay?” she asked the guard, who replied, “I guess, yeah.”
Rep. Frost took to X, writing about the incident, “They’ve called armed federal officers to the scene. We aren’t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education.” Slamming the Trump administration, he added, “This is an authoritarian regime. You cannot block members of Congress from entering the Department of Education.”

Frost continued in a video message shared to X, “I’m here with multiple members of congress of education to fight for education, and they have locked the doors. they’re not letting us sit. it says all access efforts. there’s this random guy out here just refusing to let us sit.” He added, “A year ago, I’d be able to walk into this building, and not be locked out, this is what they’re doing, Elon is allowed in. But not you, not your elected representatives, not parents not sued us Elon can go in, his goons can go in but not the representatives of the people.”
