Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert recently sounded off on former Twitter executive Yoel Roth, who was the Head of Trust and Safety prior to Elon Musk’s takeover of the social media platform. Boebert was addressing Twitter’s ties to the FBI that were exposed by the Twitter Files Elon Musk has released. The republican representative certainly did not hold back in her statements and questioning. See the rumble video below.
Rep. Boebert begins her questioning, “Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Matt Taibbi, a respected reporter who published much of the Twitter file said, quote, Twitter’s contact with FBI was constant and pervasive as if it were a subsidiary. Now I want to better understand why he would suggest that Mr. Roth was on Twitter. How many meetings did you have with the FBI?
“I couldn’t say for sure, but it..,” Roth responded before being cut off by Boebert. The representative ruthlessly pressed the former Head of Trust and Safety questioning, “More than 10? More than 20? More than 50?” Roth maintained that he “couldn’t say for sure.”
Boebert continued, “Many meetings with the FBI. Well, we know how many FBI agents worked at Twitter while you were there?” Roth responded, “I don’t believe any FBI active FBI agents…,” before Boebert hit back again. “Former FBI agents, how many worked there while you were there?” she pressed. Roth answered that he was aware of at least two. Boebert unapologetically disputed this claim, “Well, we know of at least nine because they started the BU group chat bu for bureau.”
Rep Boebert then proceeds to address how the FBI allegedly probed Twitter for the private data of American citizens who used the social media platform. Roth claims to have denied these requests, but it still raises the question of why the FBI would seek this data. “What sick isn’t that you would deny it? It’s that the FBI would even ask you for the private data of American citizens without going through legal channels of the law. Now I want to remind you, Mr. off that you are under oath. Did the FBI ever ask you to do anything that was illegal or questionable illegal?” Boebert asked. Roth responded that he didn’t recall any request of this nature.
Next, Boebert addresses the shadow banning of her Twitter account after she posted a tweet joking about Hillary Clinton. She proclaimed, “I found out last night from Twitter staff that you suppressed my account for this tweet. It’s a freaking joke about Hillary Clinton being angry that she couldn’t rig her election. It’s a joke, but in response being the sinister overlords that you all are you placed a 90 day account filter so I could not be found and now we see here that Twitter staff said the visibility filter on my account excluded me from top searches prevented notifications for non followers and much more. This is considered an aggressive visibility filter, you silenced members of Congress from communicating with their constituents. You silenced me from communicating with the American people over a freaking joke. Now who the hell do you think that you are?”
