During a recent White House press briefing Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy questioned KJP on President Biden’s recent primary loss. Doocy’s question caused reporters in the room to burst into laughter.
For context, Biden lost a primary election to challenger Jason Palmer in the small South Pacific territory, American Samoa. In the primary, only 91 votes were cast in the caucuses, where 51 went to Palmer instead of President Biden, which gave him the victory along with three of the territory’s delegate votes. Reports indicate this is the first time an incumbent president has lost a primary in nearly 50 years.
Doocy introduced his topic, emphatically stating, “New topic!” Simultaneously laughing, KJP responded, “I wonder what it is.” Doocy questioned the press secretary, “Ah, has President Biden called to congratulate Jason Palmer?” The press secretary answered, “We congratulate Jason Palmer on his win last night.” Satisfied with the answer, Doocy responded, “Okay.”
The American Tribune initially reported on Jason Palmer’s surprising upset victory in American Samoa. Reportedly, Palmer is an entrepreneur ambitiously seeking to unseat incumbent Joe Biden, who has aggressively campaigned in the South Pacific territory.
“At 52, Palmer stands out as one of the youngest Democratic candidates on the ballot, offering a fresh perspective based on his experience as an entrepreneur and businessman. His platform is based on people-first conscious capitalism, modernizing our federal government, and reigniting the faith of young people and independents who have lost confidence in America’s institutions,” according to a statement from Palmer’s campaign.
“Jason is giving American Samoa the attention it deserves! Appreciate his efforts and concerns towards our island in addressing issues such as climate change, infrastructure, government fundings, healthcare, and education. From humble beginnings to making a difference,” said Salote Iopu Finauga Mamea, praising his campaign.
Since American Samoa is a territory, it does not have electoral college votes, but the territory does send delegates to the Democratic National Convention. While Palmer’s landmark primary victory will not impact Biden’s reelection chances, it is a sobering loss for the incumbent president. “Joe Biden just lost a primary election to a man nobody heard of until a minute ago,” wrote the popular conservative X account End Wokeness. Furthermore, Doocy pressed KJP if Biden would participate in a debate with former President Donald Trump ahead of the election. There has been significant speculation as to whether Biden will debate Trump, based on concerns surrounding his cognitive abilities and elderly age.
“Now that the field is down to two, is President Biden going to commit to a debate with Donald Trump?” Doocy asked. “That’s something for the campaign to speak to,” she answered. He continued, “Well, we know when the debates are going to be…We know where they’re going to be. Is he going to go?” KJP emphasized, “You should speak to the campaign.”
“In 2020, once it got down to one on one. Joe Biden said, ‘I can hardly wait to debate him.’ How about now?” Doocy continued asking, undeterred. “I’m gonna sound like a broken record. You should reach out to the campaign,” KJP answered.
