Recent footage from New York City shows former President Donald Trump outside of a fire station delivering pizza to firefighters. While Trump has been in Manhattan fighting the hush money trial, he has taken advantage of his time outside of court to interact with local residents, such as union workers, bodega owners, and now firefighters.
As demonstrated by this incident, the Republican presidential candidate’s recent public appearances have highlighted his charisma and popularity among everyday Americans. Even in the heart of liberal New York City, an area known for its hostility toward conservatives, Trump has drawn sizeable crowds of people, eager and excited to see him.
This starkly contrasts President Biden’s public engagements, such as when he recently went to a gas station in Pennsylvania. Conservatives have called out Biden for seemingly trying to imitate Trump’s charismatic interactions with the general public. However, many have claimed they seem highly choreographed and sparsely populated with people who seem barely interested in Biden’s presence.
According to a Newsmax reporter who commented on Trump’s visit with the FDNY, “This is incredible. The fact that he leaves cord goes in campaigns with these people. And it goes in campaigns with ordinary people, not high-dollar fundraisers with Lizzo like Joe Biden did recently.”
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from the former president where he sounded off on the trial in the hush money case brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump maintained his innocence, lamenting that the case has kept him off the campaign trail ahead of the upcoming election.
“This is a Biden witch hunt to keep me off the campaign trail,” Trump stated. “I should be in Georgia now. I should be in Florida now. I should be in a lot of different places right now, campaigning. And I’m sitting here. This will go on for a long time. It’s very unfair,” he said in post-court comments to the press.
“I did nothing wrong,” Trump emphasized, maintaining his innocence. He then sounded off on the reason for which he is being indicted. “They take this payment, and they call it a legal expense. You heard it today for the first time. This is what I got indicted over. This is what took me off and takes me on the campaign trail.”
The former president added, “Because I should be in Georgia and now. I should be in Florida now. I should be in a lot of different places right now, campaigning. And I’m sitting here. This will go on for a long time. It’s very unfair. The judge is conflicted, as you know. It’s very unfair what’s going on. I should be allowed to campaign,” Trump said.
Trump also addressed the palpable support he received during his time in New York City for the trial, noting that he would “make a play” for New York in a long-shot attempt to flip the state red. He stated, “We’re very close in New York I understand and we’re leading in the country by a lot. A poll just came out a little while ago, as you saw yesterday, that we have we’re up in every swing state and up by a lot in every swing state so I think we’ll do very well and we’re gonna make a play for New York.”
