A woman accused of trying to steal an American flag from a patriot at a Portland rally ended up sitting on the grass and sobbing after the attempt sparked a physical struggle. Video from the event shows the woman grabbing the flagpole before several attendees intervened. The men accused her of striking people and trying to take property that didn’t belong to her. No arrests, criminal charges, or injuries have been confirmed in connection with the incident.
The confrontation happened during the Portland Patriots Flag Wave on August 31st, 2026. The man holding the flag was identified in a social media post as “Scuba Steve,” while the woman involved has not been publicly identified. She approached the group wearing a black shirt and grabbed the flagpole, leading to a brief tug-of-war. The footage later shows her sitting beside the sidewalk with her head lowered and her face in her hands.
People surrounding the confrontation immediately began shouting as the struggle broke out. “Back up! Back up!” one man yelled before repeatedly demanding that the woman release the flag. Another voice asked, “What is she attacking? What is happening?” The men then ordered her to leave, with one shouting, “What are you doing? Get out of here.”
As The Nerd Stash reported, the footage shows a red-haired woman approaching the flag holder before grabbing and taking hold of his flagpole. The resulting struggle carried both of them toward the grass as other participants moved closer. The video’s audio primarily captured the flag-wavers’ side of the confrontation.
One attendee demanded that the woman and other demonstrators stop interfering with the group’s events. “These are your people. Tell your people to leave us alone,” he said. “Why do you guys do that? Seriously, why does that happen? Why do you guys do that every time, bro? We can’t go anywhere, bro.” Another man alleged that the woman had begun “hitting people” during the confrontation and added, “It’s all on tape, dude.”
The confrontation shifted to the woman’s reaction as she remained seated on the grass. Several men mocked her for crying after allegedly initiating the physical encounter, with one repeatedly chanting, “Cry, cry, cry!” Another sarcastically told her, “There is a safe space at Starbucks. Go get it. Safe space over there.” He then pretended to place an emergency call, saying, “Hey, 911. Can we get a safe space? We need a safe space.”

One man also mocked what he characterized as an attempt for the woman to claim victimhood after the failed flag grab. “Oh no! No, I’m the victim. I’m the victim. I came punching people and trying to steal,” he said to her sarcastically. He pointed toward the woman and declared, “And she’s a thief. Here’s a thief 101 right here.”
“Why would you ever hit? Why do you put hands on anybody?” the man continued as the woman remained on the ground. Other attendees repeatedly told her to leave, with one saying, “That’s what you get. Go home.” The footage doesn’t show the woman giving a clear response or motive as to why she struck people or attempted to take the flag.
The identity of the woman and the circumstances leading up to her approach were still unclear following the event. No official police report connected to the confrontation had been identified as of the source report’s publication on September 1st. It also remained unknown whether Portland police responded to the scene or whether anyone involved sought to file a complaint.
