Speaking in an interview on Fox News Channel in the wake of the criminal referral of New York Attorney General Letitia James, Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed that she would go after James for the alleged two and a half decades of alleged mortgage fraud in which he appears to have been caught.
As background, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte requested that charges be brought against NY AG James in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche. Beginning it, he wrote, “Pursuant to my authority as Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (“U.S.Federal Housing” or “FHFA”), I am referring the matter below. As regulator of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, we take very seriously allegations of mortgage fraud or other criminal activity. Such misconduct jeopardizes the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market.”
Later, Director Pulte gave a few examples of NY AG James’s allegedly illegal behavior, saying, “Based on media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms. This has potentially included 1) falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate and 2) misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.”
It was about those allegations that AG Bondi spoke to Bill Hemmer of “America’s Newsroom” on April 16, saying that she is glad someone dug into the NY AG’s history to find what James might have been up to and that she will do what is necessary to hold the woke Trump persecutor accountable.
Kicking things off, Hemmer asked, after quoting from Director Pulte’s allegations, “The issue here is what property she owned and whether or not she owned it, whether or not she was married and whether or not her father was involved in all this, without going into the weeds of the details, this stems from a case in 1983 and the year 2000 that’s a minimum of 25 years. Someone had to do some digging to find this. Am I right about that?”
Responding, Bondi explained that while she has not yet fully reviewed the details of the case, she will do so and James will be held accountable. She said, “The most I know about the case I just learned from you. I saw it on breaking news this morning. This case was sent to us from Bill Pulte. We have not seen it. I inquired right before I walked out here. No one in my office has read it yet. We haven’t looked at it. Of course, we’ll be reviewing it.” Watch her here:

Posting about the matter in a post on X, Josh Dunlap said, quoting Hemmer and praising the investigation that went into this, “Pam Bondi set to review 25 years of mortgage fraud by Letitia James. ‘This case stems from 25 years ago. Someone had to do some digging to find this.’ I’m certainly thankful to whoever did the digging.”
Agreeing, a commenter on Hemmer’s post said, “Absolutely, this kind of deep digging is exactly what’s needed to hold corrupt officials accountable. If Pam Bondi follows through thoroughly, Letitia James’ long trail of alleged mortgage fraud may finally see sunlight. Twenty-five years of deception doesn’t vanish without a trace.”
