Things got very entertaining as Attorney General Pam Bondi raged against and sparred with Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) over the Trump Administration’s efforts to protect ICE agents from violent leftist radicals in sanctuary cities like Chicago by deploying hundreds of National Guard troopers to those cities, with AG Bondi eventually hammering Sen. Durbin for hating Trump more than he loves his native city of Chicago.
That came as AG Bondi testified before the Senate Oversight Committee, on which Sen. Durbin is a ranking member, on Tuesday, October 7. The hearing regarded legislative oversight of the Department of Justice, and the general matter of what is going on in terms of federal law enforcement in America.
In any case, Durbin set the hostile tone in his opening statement, snapping at Bondi, “He is illegally deploying troops to Chicago and other American cities and has threatened to send more. The Justice Department defends the dubious legal basis for these deployments and diverts DOJ personnel and components to assist in these efforts.”
Then, questioning the attorney general later on, Durbin asked, “Were you consulted by the White House before they deployed National Guard troops to cities in the Untied States?” AG Bondi, annoyed, shot back, “I am not going to discuss any internal conversations with the White House.”
Sen. Durbin got annoyed too, and pressed, “You won’t even say whether you talked to them?” AG Bondi responded by saying that she would not discuss such conversations in public, telling him, “I am not going to discuss any internal conversations with you chairm — I mean, ranking member.”
Going from hostile to raging, Sen. Durbin then declared, angrily ranting at her over the National Guard deployment to Chicago, and Illinois generally, to assist ICE. He snapped, “I noticed that..What’s the secret? Why do you want to keep this a secret so that the American people don’t know the rationale behind the deployment of National Guard troops in my state?”
Continuing, Sen. Durbin snapped at Bondi for letting the White House send red state troopers into Chicago, angrily asking, “The word is, and I think it’s been confirmed by the White House, that they’re going to transfer Texas National Guard units to the state of Illinois. What’s the rationale for that?”

AG Bondi, sharply responding to the raging senator, exposing as she did so how Sen. Durbin and his party are responsible for much of the mess America is in. She began, “Yeah, chairman, as you shut down the government, you voted to shut down the government, and you’re sitting here, our law enforcement officers are not being paid.”
Continuing from there is when AG Bondi really got to exposing what is going on with Durbin and his party, noting that he hates the president more than he loves his city and wants to help protect its residents from criminality. She said, “I wish you could love Chicago as much as you hate President Trump. And currently the National Guard are on the way to Chicago. If you’re not going to protect your citizens, President Trump will.”
Whining and shaking his head in response, Sen. Durbin snapped, “I’ve been on this committee for more than 20 years and that’s the kind of testimony you expect from this administration. A simple question as to whether or not they had a legal rationale for deploying National Guard troops becomes grounds for a personal attack.”
