WATCH: Noem Faces Threats of Investigation from the GOP as “Personal PR” Slush Fund Scandal Explodes

In the wake of now-former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem getting fired from the position in large part because of a massive taxpayer money scandal involving her irresponsibly spending hundreds of millions of dollars on what amounted to “personal PR”, and doing so through an insider who used an uncompetitive bid to get the advertising contract, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) revealed that Noem could face a serious House Oversight Committee investigation.

As background, it emerged during a House hearing on Wednesday, March 4, that Secretary Noem had “sexual relations” with her top aide, Corey Lewandowski, and that Lewandowski was allegedly connected to the contract for the $220 million the Secretary spent on ads starring her, a massive budget that she falsely claimed that President Trump approved.

According to an administration official who spoke after her firing was announced, the president’s move to fire her was “a culmination of her many unfortunate leadership failures including the fallout in Minnesota, the ad campaign,” as well as “mismanagement of her staff, and her constant feuding with the heads of other agencies, including CBP and ICE.”

Sp, appearing on Friday, March 6, on Newsmax TV’s “National Report,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) revealed that former Secretary Noem could be facing a major House Oversight Committee investigation over the matter, and the role Lewandowski allegedly played in the whole incident and mess

Beginning, Rep. Mace noted the two main questions she has about the scandal, saying, “I trust President Trump and his judgment here. One of my questions is Corey Lewandowski. Is he going with her? Where is he going in all of this? The second thing is, I want to thank, and I’m very grateful, to Republican Senator Kennedy.”

Continuing, Rep. Mace revealed that this is particularly infuriating given that the money was effectively free and personal PR for Noem, saying, “I had no idea how much money — hundreds of millions of dollars — that Kristi Noem had wasted on her personal PR for all those TV ads that are running across the country that have nothing to do with deporting illegal aliens.”

Importantly, Rep. Mace then argued that firing former Sec. Noem will help make the DHS much more effective, saying, “And so, I’m looking forward to the new leadership. I’m looking forward to President Trump being even more effective with better leaders within DHS. I think this was the right call.”

Chiming in, Newsmax “National Report” co-host Emma Rechenberg questioned if an investigation is and should be coming, saying, “Will you investigate her? Do you plan on investigating? We’re talking about over $200 million, the whole blanket thing. Do you think there should be an investigation launched into Kristi Noem?”

Rep. Mace argued that just such an investigation is needed, or at least the subpoenaing of documents that help them get to the bottom of it. She said, “I do, and now that I have more of this information, you know, I think that we need to go back to a potential subpoena for her through the Oversight Committee.”

She concluded that trust in America’s institutions must be restored, saying, “I don’t think she walks away from this, and she shouldn’t, because as Republicans, we need to hold our own accountable because President Trump is trying to reinstill trust in our institutions, in Congress, in the White House.”
