Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently sat down with MSNBC to react to the first several weeks of the Trump administration. During the interview, Pelosi was asked to weigh in on former President Joe Biden’s claim that he would have defeated Donald Trump if he hadn’t been pressured to withdraw from the race last year.
Pelosi appeared to disagree with the notion that the Democratic Party would have performed better if Biden had led the ticket. She argued that the Democrats didn’t fare as poorly as people have claimed they did in the November election but maintained things would have been “quite different” if Biden had not withdrawn from the race in July.
Retiring MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell asked the former House speaker, “President Biden has said that he thinks he could have won if he hadn’t been pressured to step down. Do you agree?” She replied, “All I know is that we won a seat in the house. We did not lose any seats. You know, people were like, Whoa. The Democrats lost. No, we did not. I think it would have been quite different with President Biden at the top of the ticket.”
Mitchell further questioned Pelosi about reports that former First Lady Jill Biden was disappointed in the California Democrat over how their relationship had deteriorated since her husband withdrew from the presidential race. “The former First Lady, Joe Biden, has spoken out saying she was disappointed in you. Is there any way to patch that up?” the host asked in a pressing follow-up question.
Pelosi initially acknowledged that she hadn’t spoken to the Bidens but hopes there is a way to mend their relationship. She then said, “The fact is that we’re all on a mission for the American people, for the American people, for America’s working families. My whole passion about being in politics is for the children. So what is it that we’re doing for the children?”
She continued, “I think that it would have been important for the children to not have Donald Trump be President of the United States, and that is, I would take every step necessary to make sure that didn’t happen. But it did. Now we have to deal with it, and in about six or seven months, you’re going to see such a change by the time we start our campaigns in this fall, for next fall, you’re going to see a very different picture about the Democrats. Vis a vis Donald Trump.”
The American Tribune recently reported on the comments from the former first lady who voiced her sentiment toward Nancy Pelosi during an exit interview with the Washington Post. Addressing Joe Biden being allegedly forced out, she said, “It’s been on my mind a lot lately. It’s been on my mind a lot lately. We were friends for 50 years. It was disappointing…Let’s just say I was disappointed with how it unfolded.”

Following these remarks, Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra, took aim at the Biden family. Alexandra told Politico, “If I was Lady McBiden, I’d put on my big girl pants, play the long game and think about my husband’s legacy. There aren’t that many people left in America who have something nice to say about Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi is one of them.”
