Though numerous Democrats, from celebrities like George Clooney to average voters and even some politicians, are calling on President Joe Biden to step down and not run for re-election in November, a good number have thrown in their lot with him and intimated that they will not be backing down from that position, come what may.
Among them was Rep. Maxine Waters. She, when questioned by CNN’s Manu Raju, an Anchor and Chief Congressional Correspondent for the network, said that she is a “fan of President Biden” and will continue working on his behalf headed into the election, something that separates her from the increasing number of Democrats, particularly voters and personalities, who are retreating from him in the wake of his disastrously bad debate with Trump.
Raju said, in a clip in which he interviewed her in the Capitol complex, “Biden has won strong support from senior members of the Congressional Black Caucus.” She told him, “All I can tell you is I am a big supporter of Biden. I –” Raju then asked her, “What about the people who believe that he’s going to lose?” She said, “I am going to work as hard as I can for him. Biden is going to win. The team Biden-Harris is going to win, win, win.”

Another such situation occurred when ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott caught up to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, also in the Capitol complex, and tried asking her about President Biden. Rep. Pelosi said, “I’m not having this conversation with you or anybody else about what I talk with the president about, with all due respect.”
“Do you believe that —” Scott continued, trying again before Rep. Pelosi jumped back in. Pelosi said, “I never do. I never do so it’s nothing new.” Scott again tried, saying, “I understand, Madame Speaker. Do you believe him waiting so long to make this decision —” Pelosi snapped, “I’m not going to be making any comments in the hallway about the fate of our nation, okay?”

They were joined by Rep. Frederica Wilson, who, on Sunday, July 7, issued a sharp rebuke of those demanding President Biden step down, saying, “Any ‘leader’ calling for President Biden to drop out needs to get their priorities straight and stop undermining this incredible actual leader who has delivered real results for our country.
She continued, in her pro-Biden statement, saying that Trump is the far greater evil. She said: “And when you contrast that with a dangerous figure like Donald Trump pushing a radical agenda to be dictator on day one and destroy our democracy, we must do everything in our power to defeat him; Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is the ticket to do just that.”
Rep. Wilson then added that she will continue standing with both the president and vice president, saying, “What Democrats need to be doing is stop listening to these political pundits and focus on what’s at stake this election: our democracy. End of story. I stand with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and so should all Americans.”
