Speaking during an angry tirade of an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” former Speaker of the House and soon-to-be retiring United States Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) angrily attacked President Donald Trump and declared that the president will “pay a price” over what happened at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
As a reminder, Pelosi has announced that she will not run for re-election in 2026, meaning that she will finally be leaving Congress after the November midterm elections. That decision has set up a major fight over whether she will manage to cement her legacy as a leading leftist, such as by attacking President Trump, or will face a Republican-led effort to investigate and embarrass her. She, as such, has leaned into attacking the president in any way she can, such as with January 6.
In any case, during her ridiculous and anger-filled appearance on ABC, when discussing an HBO documentary about January 6, Nancy Pelosi was asked by show host Jonathan Karl, “We see what is happening at the Capitol. What is going through your head?”
Pelosi, responding, insisted that the president has launched an “insurrection” against the United States when some of his supporters trespassed in the US Capitol on January 6. Doing so, she snapped, “Well, it was clear that the president of the United States had incited an insurrection.”
Adding to that, she insisted that it was the president’s fault that the National Guard wasn’t there, something the president and many of his allies categorically dispute, insisting that she is to blame. In any case, she said, “And we begged him to send the National Guard. Typical of him, he never represents the truth. He said, ‘Well, I was going to send them.’ Get out of here. Even Mitch McConnell was on the phone with us, saying, ‘Get them here right away.’ But they never sent them.”
Still not done, the former Speaker of the House insisted that she is filled with “sorrow” because of how the president has, she claimed, tried to “rewrite history.” She snapped, “The sorrow of it also springs from the fact that this president is trying to rewrite history, have a different narrative of what happened that day.”
Yet further, she went on to insist that the US Capitol is the world’s “symbol of democracy” and that the protest that led to the trespassers going in it had “assaulted” it. She said, “What happened that day was horrible. It was an assault on the Capitol, the symbol of democracy to the world.”

Adding to that, she further snapped, “It was an assault on the Congress, the day we honored our responsibility under the Constitution to certify the Electoral College, who was elected president, as an assault on the Constitution of the United States. It was horrible.”
That’s when it got to the threats. Karl, pressing her on the whole situation and incident, asked, “Has he paid a price for it?” Pelosi, responding, vowed that the president would “pay a price”, telling Karl, “No, he’s president of the United States now. But history will, he’ll pay a price in history.”
