In an insightful clip from liberal network MSNBC, the panelists expressed their anger with Senate Democrats after 40 days of government shutdown that was only ending with a Republican victory, saying that it seemed like the Democrats were going to capitulate in a method similar to Lucy pulling the football away.
Starting off, one of the liberal hosts expressed anger at the Democratic Party for how it has acted during the shutdown, saying that he doesn’t get why the Senate Democrats are capitulating in exchange for what amounts to nothing at all of benefit to them or their party base.
Doing so, the host angrily declared, referencing the end of the shutdown agreement, “I have a lot more questions than answers. I don’t know why Senate Democrats are going along with this so hard for a date promised in the future and there looks like they’re settling for something that is six weeks down the line. I don’t get it.”
Chiming in, one cynical liberal likened the situation to a classic cartoon show, saying, “I would say it doesn’t feel like a gentleman’s agreement. It feels like Lucy in the football, it’s like, oh yeah, we promised this vote. Whoops. You know, the votes are gone.”
Building on this point, another MSNBC hack chimed in and went on the attack and stated, “They can even, in good faith, do a vote in the Senate. Nothing’s gonna happen the house. Mike Jones, even if John Thune is being above board, say, I’m gonna do this. But look at the base. I mean, I’m already seeing a thing on social media and getting emails from listeners to my radio show, by the way, radio show for 40 days, you shut the government down, and now you’re going to open the government up.”
Asking a reasonable question, the MSNBC personality noted that a great deal of pain was inflicted in exchange for nothing at all, saying, “And what did you get in return? Nothing, nothing. After the pain you inflicted, people were willing to take I took the union workers from TSA said, I’ll take the pain. It’s going to help me to get health insurance subsidies paid. So you’re getting nothing in return, I don’t know how. And you just won an election on Tuesday.”
Interjecting, one of the hosts said, “This is my question, what? What explains the timing here? Like, what changed didn’t change?” Responding, another answered that the result of the off-year elections could be a major factor, writing, “The cynical person would say that Democrats won the election, that’s what changed. Yeah, Republicans are gonna say that. That’s exactly what they’re gonna say. And, you know, I’m not like I, you know, work for three Democratic senators back in the day. I’m not f*cking for them. Now, I don’t know what their response, a real response, is going to be to that, because it’s not apparent. It looks like they fold it well.”
