During a recent interview with black Trump supporters in Philadelphia, an MSNBC host appeared visibly shocked by the critical sentiment that the swing state voters were voicing. As the group of black women explained why they did not feel confident in Vice President Harris leading the nation, anchor Alex Wagner seemed bewildered by the lack of support.
As Wagner polled the room of battleground state voters, she received various negative opinions toward Kamala Harris, such as her lack of political experience. They also suggested that Harris would not fare well sitting down with the leaders of other adversarial nations, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Wagner kicked off the questioning, asking, “What are your feelings and let me start with the women here about Kamala Harris.” Immediately, one woman answered, “She’s a woman of color. I’m not putting her down because of that,” one woman said. “I’m not putting her down because she’s a woman … but at the end of the day, I don’t think that [Kamala] has the personality.”
She continued, “I don’t think that she has what it takes to go up against Putin and go up against these other presidents that are built for this.” Continuing to express her concern about Harris’ viability as a confident leader, she added, “I don’t want to be scared because my president’s scared, I want my president to feel secure, and manly, and about it.”
The topic of Harris’ gender was also addressed. “We brought up gender, right? Like, do you think it matters that she’s a woman, and people aren’t comfortable having a woman in a top leadership role?” Wagner asked. “No, I don’t think that. Because most men, they love their mothers, they love their wives,” one of the women told the MSNBC host.
She further stated, “So as a woman, most men, they respect the woman, but she just don’t have the qualification or the education to really run America, because she don’t have the experience, she don’t understand our struggles, and for me to believe you for another four years, you’re crazy, like you’re crazy, you’re saying the same thing that you said four years ago, the fact that she’s the vice president, you’re like you’ve been here. You got a chance.”
Wagner asked about speculation regarding Harris’ racial identity, asking, “There’s a thing that Trump talks about this a lot. He says, you know, Kamala Harris became black when it was convenient, right? Can you, can you talk to me about, do you feel, do you agree with him on that? Do you feel like she’s wearing her black?”

One of the women immediately fired back, “Absolutely.” She added, “She’s sworn into the when she sworn to the Senate, it was as the first Indian American. It’s fine. We don’t care.” Another woman claimed, “We all know she’s not black. Let’s understand that. We are all clear of that. But my point of view…she’s already been there, she’s in office right now.”
