“Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary recently sent a CNN panel into a meltdown after suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris had subverted democratic processes when she stepped up to secure the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race earlier in the summer following calls from his party to do so.
“Well, I would like to introduce the concept of the panel tonight. It’s going to be a short dissertation, but I want you to think about this, because I watched like you did yesterday, and something hit me pretty hard. Only 90 days ago, Pelosi went to Biden and said, You need to step aside and convince him to do so. He made the decision, and he did actually ask her, and we’ve now learned this, is she the right person to drive this home?” O’Leary began, recounting the major shakeup on the Democratic ticket.
Continuing to question the tactics used to push Kamala Harris to the forefront of the party, the businessman said, “He questioned that. He could have said, we need to run a process in order for me to make this move. But they decided not to. I don’t know who they is. Was it Obama? Was it Pelosi?” The panel appeared visibly frustrated, showing their disapproval of O’Leary’s stance.
O’Leary then offered a brilliant analogy, pointing out that the vast majority of professional hedge fund managers cannot beat the S&P 500 index. He compared this to high-ranking Democrats who he claims subverted the interests of Democratic voters in selecting Harris to be the party’s candidate. “I don’t care who it was in stock picking. Just listen to this analogy. You may agree. You may not,” he started.
Mr. Wonderful added, “88% of managers, because the world I live in cannot beat the S&P year in, year out. So you give them $1,000 the S&P beats them. They can’t pick stocks. This is the second time the Democratic Party has circumvented democracy and chose…” O’Leary was interrupted by the panel who disagreed wit him.” He maintained, “Yes, it is Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton, and she had Bruce Springsteen too, and what happened to her? And now we’ve chosen…” before being interrupted again.
O’Leary continued to claim that the Democratic Party had ignored the interests of voters and selected the past couple of liberal candidates. As a result, the CNN panel descended into chaos, where the co-hosts argued over top of each other, triggered by O’Leary’s remarks. Undeterred by the backlash, O’Leary refused to back down from his stance.
Conservative commentator Collin Rugg shared the footage to X, writing, “CNN panel completely loses it after Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary (correctly) points out that Kamala Harris was not democratically nominated. The “pro-democracy” party really hates it when you point out that they don’t actually support democracy. O’Leary: “Listen to this analogy, and you may agree, you may not. 88% of managers cannot beat the S&P 500 year in year out.” They can’t pick stocks. This is the second time the Democratic party has circumvented democracy and chose someone.” CNN panel: *Melts down*”
