In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump commenting online about taking over the Panama Canal, buying Greenland, and invading Canada, highly successful businessman Kevin O’Leary, jokingly called “Mr. Wonderful” because of his not overly cheery disposition, argued that it’s time America subsumed Canada and erases the border between itself and its northern neighbor to combat China.
Trump, as background, after having posted about Greenland and the Panama Canal earlier, along with having jokingly commented about taking over Canada, posted, “Merry Christmas to all, including to the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal (where we lost 38,000 people in its building 110 years ago).”
Continuing, he said Panama is “always making certain that the United States puts in Billions of Dollars in “repair” money, but will have absolutely nothing to say about ‘anything.'” Trump also threatened to place a 25% tariff on good from Canada as a way of protecting American industry from what he framed as unfair trade practices engaged in by the Canadians.
He added, “Also, to Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose Citizens’ Taxes are far too high, but if Canada was to become our 51st State, their Taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World. Likewise, to the people of Greenland, which is needed by the United States for National Security purposes and, who want the U.S. to be there…”
Commenting about the matter on Fox Business, Mr. Wonderful argued that there are a great many resources in Canada that could be taken over, saying, “There’s 41 million Canadians, basically the population of California, sitting on the world’s largest amounts of all resources, including the most important, energy and water. Canadians over the holidays the last two days have been talking about this. They want to hear more.”
Continuing, he noted, “And so there’s obviously a lot of issues and more details, but what this could be is the beginning of an economic union. Think about the power of combining the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States and putting all that resource up to the northern borders where China and Russia are knocking on the door.”
He then added, commenting on what would be needed to make it work, “So secure that, give a common currency, figure out taxes across the board, get everything trading both ways, create a new, almost EU-like passport. I like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested. The problem is the government’s collapsing in Canada right now.”

Joking that he could be the one to arrange the deal for Canada and America, O’Leary said, “Nobody wants [Canadian Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I don’t want him doing it for me. So I’m going to go to Mar-a-Lago. I’ll start the narrative. The 41 millions Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.”
