After former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump struck back at President Joe Biden’s “garbage” smear of his supporters by riding in a trash truck in Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 30, the talking heads on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” had a complete and total meltdown.
As background, Trump’s action was sparked when President Biden said, “And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” Well, let me tell you something. I don’t– I– I don’t know the Puerto Rican that– that I know– or a Puerto Rico, where I’m from– in my home state of Delaware, they’re good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters– his– his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been.”
Trump then got in the garbage truck and gave a rally speech while still in the orange vest, in place of his normal suit jacket, which is what sent “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough into meltdown mode during a broadcast of the show, with fellow co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist looking on as he had his meltdown.
Scarborough, during his rant, practically yelled that Trump has called the press “scum” or worse, and so deserved whatever he gets. Shaking his fist with anger, he said, “So there you go, Mika. The hypocrisy over a misstatement by Joe Biden which he quickly corrected is so laughable, because [Trump] does this every day.”
Continuing, he portrayed Trump as a hypocrite, saying, “And then you turn on Fox News again – ‘Oh! How could anybody do this? I’ve never seen anybody do this before?’” Brzezinski and Geist, looking on as he went on his berserk rant, smiled uncomfortably at him.
Still not done, Scarborough kept snapping, saying, “One of the people saying that yesterday on Fox News stood by while Donald Trump watched violence erupt on January the 6th and kept allowing violence to erupt on January 6th and say the people who were beating the hell out of cops were patriots. So yes, yes, Willie – the gaslighting, never, ends.” Watch him here:
Mike Brzezinski, though she didn’t go as far as Joe Scarborough, or get as angry, freaked out as well, doing so after Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally in New York City. Doing so, she said, “I think a lot of people are seeing that rally at Madison Square Garden, seeing all those people, doesn’t mean he’s going to win the race. But my point is it’s discouraging that so many people would gather and rally to hate, to hate speech in America. It’s discouraging, and it hurts.”
That rally was where the whole “garbage” spat started with comedian and “Kill Tony” podcast Tony Hinchcliffe, who spoke at the October 27 Madison Square Garden rally. He said, “I don’t know if you guys know this. But there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now.” He added, “Yeah — I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
