Things got crazy in an Indian market square when a miniature version of “King Kong” played out, albeit with a dog rather than beautiful bombshell and monkey rather than massive gorilla, after a monkey grabbed a dog and started jumping rooftop to rooftop.
A bystander in the market square in the city of Jaipur, India, captured the crazy incident on video, showing the shocking Saturday moment when the simian swooped down and grabbed a black and white dog before running along the rooftop of a business by the market square.
The small dog tried wriggling out of the monkey’s grasp, though the simian was able to keep hold of it while looking out over the crowd and leaping from rooftop to rooftop. Though the crowd laughed at the poor pup’s plight and the monkey’s antics, the fate that befell the dog is unclear, as the video ended. Watch the incident here:
The New York Post, in its report on the video, reported that such incidents with the little simians aren’t uncommon in Jaipur, which is overrun with them. In its words:
Instances like this, however, are not uncommon in Jaipur, which houses a massive Hindu temple complex home to a large colony of monkeys, which has earned it the moniker, The Monkey Temple.
The city has become a tourist destination for those wanting to see the monkeys, however, many travel websites warn that the simians are quick to steal from people and advise visitors to keep their distance from them.
Further, the New York Post reports that similar, sickening incidents play out across India and the region generally, as the monkies have a strange proclivity for stealing, and in some cases killing, the puppies. In its words:
While the monkeys can be playful, some of them have a dark history when it comes to dogs, with two monkeys reportedly killing around 250 dogs in 2021 for revenge in Maharashtra, 621 miles south of Jaipur.
The primates were believed to have slaughtered the dogs by dragging them to the tops of buildings and trees and dropping them to their deaths as retaliation against a canine who killed one of their babies.
[…]And India isn’t the only place where these scenes play out. In Malaysia, another monkey was captured on video kidnapping a puppy, with the dog held hostage for three days in September 2021.
After multiple rescue attempts, residents in Taman Lestari Putra succeeded in freeing the pup after throwing rocks at the monkey, causing it to put the dog down as it fled.
