Footage has resurfaced from an Oxford, Mississippi Waffle House that devolved into something akin to a “WWE” match when patrons descended into violence during an early-morning breakfast. Irate customers resorted to using chairs and other objects as fighting implements, comparable to a professional wrestler slamming a folding chair over their opponents head.
The altercation over an unspecified issue broke out between patrons just after 4:45 a.m., according to the timestamp on the cellphone footage captured by onlookers. As the video begins, patrons and employees alike could be seen with their phones out, recording the incident in seeming amusement. The violence appeared to centered around several males, where the security guard on-site was unable to apprehend the individuals.
The situation escalated when one of the men grabbed a chair and began violently swinging it at his opponents, appearing to strike on the head, who seemed unfazed. As the chair was being hurled by the attacker patrons fled to the parking lot to avoid the violence. The user on X who uploaded, the footage quipped, “Seems as if the Oxford Waffle House turned into a WWE match early this morning!”
One person called out the individuals who sat with their phones recording the incident instead of taking action to mitigate the violence. “Why do you think k it is appropriate to film an altercation? One day you will be a witness to a serious crime with the inappropriate filming. Hopefully you will be charged also,” they wrote in the comments section.
Another person echoed the same sentiment, writing, “I’m so sick of males filming crap with their phones instead of being men and breaking stupidity up!” Similarly, another person stated, “The younger generation and their phones is the weirdest thing in the world to me.”
One user sarcastically pointed out how the security guard did nothing to stop the fight. “So great to see security took control and stopped the fight,” they said. “What was security doing?” another person asked. “Dude jumped up on a table filming lol. They he went back and flipped some waffles while continuing to film,” one user said.
“Waffle House fights… a uniquely southern tradition unlike any other,” one wrote. “Everyone rather pull out their phones instead of trying to diffuse the situation. People care more about clicks and views than they do making sure someone doesn’t get hurt. Probably over something dumb. This world is going to the sh*ts!” one person commented.

One person on Reddit offered their insight to the question about what is causing the seemingly endless conflicts at Waffle House. “The violence at Waffle House isn’t just post-pandemic. That’s how Waffle House has always been. If you were to rank late-night restaurants, it’s Denny’s and I-Hop, and then much lower down on the ladder is Waffle House. Denny’s and IHop avoid some of the issues by having high-backed booths that separate customers, and a kitchen in the back. There are still fights at those other places, but not at the same frequency. Waffle House stuffs everybody into too tight of a space and they’re often located in sh*ttier parts of town. So by saving money, Waffle House increases the chances of conflict,” the posted.
