Speaking during a powerful press conference in which she soundly refuted claims that she had a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein or his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, First Lady Melania Trump vowed to take legal action against fake news media personality James Carville over his false claims about her.
Specifically, she hammered Carville and a couple of media organizations for what she characterized as being false claims about her and her supposed relationship with Epstein, saying that she and her legal team will take however much action is necessary to protect her reputation and ensure it is upheld in the face of these awful attacks.
Beginning that section of the speech, Melania first argued that the attacks on her that revolve around the false allegation that she had a relationship with Epstein are false, politically motivated, rooted in hope of smearing her to gain financially, and must stop, saying, “The false smears about me from mean-spirited and politically motivated individuals and entities looking to cause damage to my good name to gain financially and climb politically must stop.”
Continuing, she noted that her legal team has already started successfully tackling the issue of “unfounded and baseless lies” about her and her past, and will continue to go to legal war to protect her reputation. She said, “My attorneys and I have fought these unfounded and baseless lies with success and will continue to maintain my sound reputation without hesitation.”
Still not done, she noted that she has forced retractions and apologies from a slew of figures, including James Carville, saying, “To date, several individuals and companies have been legally obligated to publicly apologize and retract their lies about me, such as The Daily Beast, James Carville, and Harper Collins UK.”
For reference, the legal war against James Carville came back in the summer of 2025, when he released a podcast in which he insinuated and insisted, without any actual evidence, that First Lady Melania Trump was connected to Jeffrey Epstein and that she met President Trump through the infamous duo, a claim against which she and her legal team took immediate action. He soon retracted the claim and apologized.

Carville, for reference, said at the time, commenting on why he retracted the podcast episode, “After the episode, we received a letter from Melania Trump’s lawyer. He took issue with our title of one of those YouTube videos from that episode and a couple of comments I made about the first lady.”
Continuing, Carville noted that he was taking back his comments and apologizing after examining what Melania’s team was so upset about, saying, “We took a look at what they complained about, and we took down the video and edited out those comments from the episode. I also take back these statements and apologize.”
Melania’s attorneys, for their part, said, “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods. The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book, ‘Melania.’”
