Resurfaced footage from 2017 shows then-first lady Melania Trump delivering inspiring remarks at the inaugural ball. Trump introduced his wife to speak, where she expressed her gratitude for being the first lady, maintaining that she and her husband would fight to “make America great again.”
“Thank you all for your service,” Melania began. I’m honored to be our First Lady. We will fight, we will win, and we will make America great again. Thank you.” As she concluded her brief yet powerful statement, Trump and Melania walked hand-in-hand offstage.
As the 2024 election draws nearer, Melania has made an increasing number of public appearances on behalf of her husband’s campaign. During Trump’s first term, Melania was known to be more reserved, shying away from the political limelight.
However, the American Tribune reported early last month on comments from Melania telling people to “stay tuned” as she would be making more appearances on the campaign trail. Furthermore, former President Trump also indicated in late February that his wife would be increasingly seen at his campaign events.
Trump said, “It’s funny, she was a very successful model, very, very successful, and yet she was a private person. She’s going to be out a lot. Not because she likes doing it, but she likes the results.” He went on, “She wants to see this country really succeed. She loves the country.” He then said, “Melania is a brilliant person. Her life revolves around Barron and the success of our country.”
The former president further described the importance of their son Barron, which Melania’s life “revolves around.” However, Trump emphasized that his wife’s unwavering commitment and love for the country are driving her to get out and campaign.
“Her life revolves around that boy. It’s so important to her.” He added, “At the same time, it also revolves around our country and the success of our country. She’s raised a lot of money for charity. She’s a private person.” Trump continued illustrating how Melania is motivated by her love for America to get out and help her husband’s campaign efforts. “And she loves the country. She’s going to be out a lot, but she does it for the good of the country, not for her. She’s somebody with a lot of confidence. She doesn’t need that.” Watch Melania’s inspiring statement from the 2017 inaugural ball below:
In April, the former first lady headlined a high-profile event at Mar-a-Lago with the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative LGBT group. Ahead of the event, she emphasized the importance of striving for equality in American society to Fox News Digital.
“We must unite in our effort to establish a society where equality is the everyday experience of every American,” she said. “Individual freedom provides a unifying set of principles, and ultimately establishes our American way.”
Melania continued, “Together, we must nourish and safeguard the seeds of liberty. Because, when successful, America blossoms into a magnificent place where everyone can practice their beliefs, share new ideas, and express individualism — this is when we are our best.”
