Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly recently called out CNN host Kaitlan Collins, who has recently been confronted over the left-leaning network’s political bias in its reporting. In her commentary, Kelly offered stern advice for Collins to improve her reporting skills, in which she claimed the host should counter a “boring personality” with “warmth.”
Kelly said, “The fact that she has some roots in Alabama does not make her a fair and balanced reporter. I will submit to the record, her biggest sin is not that she is biased, though she is, it’s that she has a boring personality.” She unapologetically continued, “I have a pro-tip for her, smile. Try smiling. Try not to be in your delivery like such a cold-hearted b**** all the time, because it gives people nothing to bond to. You can be a tough interviewer and also have some warmth.”
Kelly’s comments followed Collins’ appearance on Bill Maher’s talk show, “Real Time,” in which the CNN host asserted that her network took an unbiased approach to covering Republicans and Democrats. However, Maher cited her recent appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show in which the live audience laughed at the idea of CNN’s journalistic integrity.
“You made press because you were on Stephen Colbert’s show, and he said something like, ‘You guys at CNN just report the news straight.’ And the crowd burst into laughter. I’m a big rooter for CNN, but that tells you a lot, doesn’t it?” Maher pointed out. However, Collins told Maher that she believes her show is an opportunity for both sides of the political aisle to be represented.
The American Tribune initially reported on the incident on Stephen Colbert’s show, where he and Collins were visibly taken aback when the audience laughed out of place at the claim of CNN being unbiased. The conversation began with Collins discussing Trump’s strategy for attacking Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
“Trump has kind of been thrown on his heels by this, and he’s not really sure how to go after Vice President Harris. He knew his attack lines on President Biden. He really has struggled with how to how to go after someone who’s 20 years younger than him, who is a different gender, a different race. It’s kind of been this moment where he has not been able to coalesce around a single attack line,” Collins said.
Colbert then said, “I know you guys are objective over there that you just report the news as it is,” before the live audience interrupted him with an outburst of laughter. Collins and Colbert immediately looked surprised, indicating that it was not a scripted laugh. “Oh, I know CNN makes it…” Colbert said. Collins questioned in seeming disbelief, “Was that supposed to be a laugh line?”

Colbert responded, “It wasn’t supposed to be, but I guess it is.” The host quickly changed the topic to Biden dropping out of the race. “What I wanted to ask is that you guys still have your own feelings, your own bets about what’s going to happen on a daily basis. Did you think that Biden was going to step down? Did that take everybody over to CNN by surprise?”
