Speaking during a recent episode of her Sirius XM show, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Megyn Kelly both ripped into Bud Light for its terrible decision-making during the Dylan Mulvaney disaster saga and pointed out why the beer will continue suffering well into the future thanks to the way people now view it.
Speaking on that, she pointed out that the beer, which used to be enjoyed by a wide variety of Americans and was a safe “go to” light beer, is now viewed as an uncool joke by most people.
Beginning, she pointed out that it’s now both uncool as a brand and, in the eyes of some, “a middle finger to women” to drink it. “They’ve made it so that it is uncool and a middle finger to women to have a Bud Light,” Kelly said.
Continuing her demolition of Bud Light, Kellyn noted that instead of growing tired of the boycott and losing interest, “people are openly shaming the brand.” Further, because it is now the transgender beer in the eyes of many, “people look at you funny [if you order a Bud Light],” she added, which makes it hard for the brand to recover. Even if people aren’t invested in the boycott, who wants to raise people’s eyebrows with the beer he orders?
“I don’t know how you recover from that,” Kelly said, echoing the views of many online who claim that Bud Light’s future is a dire, downhill path to irrelevance.

Kelly certainly has a point in saying that Bud Light is in serious trouble of facing a continual decline and no way out of the boycott, as the data shows that people are avoiding it and switching to other beers. In fact, data from the week of May 20th shows that the brand suffered another a 25.7% plummet in sales that week. That fall off a cliff in sales is almost certainly a result of the boycott of its products by furious consumers finally driven into action by Bud Light’s marketing partnership with Dylan Mulvaney.
In fact, Bud Light has become so uncool, as Kelly noted, an unbought, as the data shows, that its position as the number one American beer is in peril. Modelo Especial, a different Anheuser-Busch product, has been increasing in sales as Bud Light has plummeted, increasing by about 9% in the same week that Bud Light fell by over 25%.
And so Bump Williams of Bump Williams Consulting noted that his data shows Modelo overtaking Bud Light this year, saying, “While Bud Light loses week after week, Modelo Especial gains week after week and now Modelo outsells Bud Light on a national basis across all trade channels combined.” He added, “If this continues Modelo will surpass Bud Light for the year.”
Williams then added, “That’s a monumental decline. Modelo has surpassed Bud Light for the first time since it was launched in 1982.”
That’s bad news for Bud Light, even if AB InBev owns both brands: it, a classic American beer, so destroyed its brand that what was once a distant competitor is now nipping at its heels.
