Conservative commentators on social media recently criticized Rep. Maxine Waters and roughly 30 Democrats after they descended on the Department of Education (DOE) building in Washington, D.C., in protest of the Trump administration. During the incident, they harassed a security guard who stood outside the entrance, refusing to grant the mob entry.
The lawmakers wanted to speak with acting DOE secretary Denise L. Cater about President Donald Trump’s plans to downsize or possibly eliminate the agency. However, when they were stopped by a security staffer, the congressional Democrats became irate with the man. Waters continually berated the guard, demanding that he let them in and reveal his identification.
Managing editor of News Busters Curtis Houck shared a clip of the incident on X, writing, “Absolutely pathetic theater from House Democrats at the Department of Education, down to claiming the security officer is a modern day police officer in the Deep South blocking school integration.” Various other commentators shared this sentiment.
Popular conservative X account Bert, similarly wrote, “Congress Democrats went to the DOE to have a photo op and bully an employee. They got their photo op and their grandstanding. But, let’s not forget what the Democrats have done to our children these past 4 yrs. Democrats have exploited our children in the schoolroom. Below is vid. Maxine Watters asks and repeats his name to make sure the viewing audience good/bad could hear spelling of his name. Now if he is threatened and doxxed who will be responsible?”
In footage of the incident, Waters continually pressed the security guard. “Look them in the eye, come on, hold your face up ! Look at them! Let them see you!” the California Democrat said to the man standing in front of the door. “This is him! Look at him,” Waters continued. “What’s your name? Tell us your name! Give me that ID again!” Numerous other joined in, pushing the guard to let them in.
Reportedly, additional security was called in with federal law enforcement officers coming. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) took to X, stating, “They’ve called armed federal officers to the scene. We aren’t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education.” Criticizing the Trump administration, he added, “This is an authoritarian regime. You cannot block members of Congress from entering the Department of Education.”

Frost added in another statement, “I’m here with multiple members of congress of education to fight for education, and they have locked the doors. they’re not letting us sit. it says all access efforts. there’s this random guy out here just refusing to let us sit.” He said, “A year ago, I’d be able to walk into this building, and not be locked out, this is what they’re doing, Elon is allowed in. But not you, not your elected representatives, not parents not sued us Elon can go in, his goons can go in but not the representatives of the people.”
