What would you say if you got to mock the mayor who turned your city from a shining jewel into a crime-ridden dump? One TikToker got to say what many people would be thinking in such a situation when he saw former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on the street and baited the former mayor into a selfie before trolling him with some harsh words.
As background, de Blasio’s fortunes declined in 2020, when he managed to anger just about everyone. The conservatives were furious over the mayor’s handling of Covid, which saw the city locked down and life made much more difficult for many, while the left was angry over what it alleged was “racism” from the mayor’s office.
For example, protesting in 2020, former deputy executive director of the city’s Young Men’s Initiative Ifeoma Ike said, “I am standing here on the backs of so many people that have been pushed out of this administration for raising the reality of what they have to endure when they go home. Do you know how crazy it is to work for this city and then explain to your community why you work for a man who pimps out his family? Because that’s what the fuck it is! You use your family to then have us vote for you. And then you expand the police!”
Ike continued, yelling into the bullhorn, “You may think you are a lame duck, but everybody who is behind us is going to make sure that you are accountable to the promises that you claimed you believed in! You claimed you believed in a ‘Tale of Two Cities.’ But that is not a story about rich and poor; it is a story about the police and the rest of us!”
And with crime up tremendously, high taxes causing longtime residents to flee, continued protests, and general dislike of his administration, Mayor de Blasio ended up being replaced by the current New York City Mayor, Eric Adams.
All that is to say, New Yorkers of any political stripe are hardly supporters of former Mayor de Blasio. Many, in fact, quite dislike him, whatever their political ideologies. Such could be seen when a TikTok troll humiliated de Blasio, drawing him in for a selfie and then firing off, “Thanks for fuc*ing up the city. A-hole.”
Watch the troll here:
De Blasio, for his part, has remained wedded to the far left. Posting about the result of Trump’s civil fraud trial on X, for instance, former Mayor de Blasio said, “Friday’s verdict ended 50 years of successful efforts by Donald Trump to evade legal accountability. It is a seismic moment.”
In another post, de Blasio said, “In Florida today, speaking up for a basic American value: freedom of expression. That means ALWAYS respecting different views and NEVER banning books. As a parent, I don’t want any school board telling me what my child CAN’T read.“
