In one of the most horrific incidents yet to come out of Zohran Mamdani’s far-left administration in New York City, he was spotted laughing with far-left Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the names of victims who died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers were read off. To many, the horrific incident confirmed why Mayor Mamdani should have been blocked from the ceremony to begin with.
As background, in the run-up to the ceremony, over 100,000 Americans signed a petition demanding that Mamdani be kept away from the ceremony because the mayor’s attitude and allies are very much of the sort that makes many of those whose friends or family died in the attacks feel like the import of what happened on that dark day has been forgotten. Mamdani having an al-Qaeda lawyer by his side and giving him a pen used to sign an executive order recognizing a day of remembrance for the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks confirmed that in the minds of many of them.
Commenting on the mayor’s planned presence at the event, for example, one person told the media, “Our family members were killed and we don’t want him there. It’s disrespectful.” Similarly, another said that he wants Former Gov. George Pataki and Former Mayor Giuliani at the ceremony, but not Mamdani, saying, “These are the politicians that helped us push beneficial laws through and literally held our hand during that time. Mayor Mamdani has not shown any of that, none of it.”
Nevertheless, Mamdani showed up, and infuriated countless conservatives online by laughing with AOC during the part of the ceremony where the names of the honored dead were read off as a way of remembering the thousands who died when the al-Qaeda terrorists truck the Twin Towers.
It was the X account “Real America’s Voice” that drew attention to the laughing incident, posting a short clip of it and the ceremony and captioning the gut-wrenching, stomach-churning clip by saying, “DISGUSTING: AOC & Mamdani seen LAUGHING together as names of honored dead read at Ground Zero”. One commenter said, contrasting Mamdani’s attitude with that of New Yorkers who saw loved ones die in the attacks, “The frame before you have a man breaking down in tears over the memorial and then it cuts to AOC and Mamdani laughing. Despicable”. Another wrote, “Sums them both up. They know the cameras are there.”

Still another said, posting a screenshot of the incident and angrily commenting on it, “AOC and the resident terrorist sympathizing mayor sharing a light hearted moment while the names of the murder victims of 9-11 are being read by their family. Just being the POS, opportunistic, fake tramp that she always is. Imagine thinking 25 years ago that these two would be accepted and the new norm of the Democrat party.”
Others left comments like “Who’s surprised? There is never a sense of decorum from these types, unless it’s to lionize some criminal from their preferred groups” and “This is who they are. Beneath contempt. New Yorkers who put them in office should be ashamed.”
