Comedian Bill Maher recently criticized the New York prosecution against former President Donald Trump in the Stormy Daniels hush money case. According to the host of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Stormy Daniels is a terrible witness in the case.
For context, Trump is battling allegations that he falsified business documents pertaining to hush money payments sent to the porn star ahead of the 2016 election. The former president is accused of making payments to the porn star to protect his image during his campaign.
Maher slammed the prosecutions while seemingly implying they are schemes from the Democratic Party. The comedian appeared frustrated with the inability to competently ‘put Trump on trial’ in the past four years leading up to the election this fall. “I mean, the Democrats have had four years to put Trump on trial and it is all just going away,” he said. “They blew it at every turn!”
Maher called out the Georgia election interference case, addressing the controversial affair between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. Maher noted that the relationship between the two has “left an opening” in the case, ultimately leading to its delay.
Maher concluded that out of all the prosecutions waged against Trump, the Stormy Daniels hush money trial is the only one that stands a chance at coming to fruition. He stated, “They’re going to take up Trump’s argument about Fani Willis. And if she’s the prosecutor, she’s having an affair with the guy she hired. I mean, it’s not really relevant to the case, but they left an opening, and now that one’s going to be delayed. The stolen documents, one that’s never going to happen because that’s a Trump judge down there. So it’s Stormy or bust.”
The host then blasted Stormy Daniels as a witness in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case. Maher pointed out inconsistencies in her testimony over the years, playing a clip of an interview he had with the porn star in 2018.
Daniels emphasized at the time that the alleged affair she had with Trump was “not a ‘Me Too’ case,” where the adult film actress maintained that she was not “attacked, or r*ped, or coerced, or blackmailed.” Maher noted that her testimony is much different in her current recounting of the alleged sexual encounter. “That’s not what she’s saying now,” he said.
Maher claimed, “She’s talking about ‘he was bigger and blocking the way.’ It’s all the Me Too buzzwords. She said, ‘There was an imbalance of power for sure.’ ‘My hands were shaking so hard.’ She said she blacked out. Blacked out? She’s a porn star! Do you really think she blacked out? A porn star is used to having sex with people she doesn’t know…”. He added, “I just think she’s not a good witness.”
The American Tribune reported on commentary from Stormy Daniels’ former lawyer Michael Avenatti, further drawing into question the porn star’s legitimacy as a witness. Avenatti claimed, “Stormy Daniels is going to say whatever she believes is going to assist Stormy Daniels and putting more money in her pocket…If Stormy Daniels’ lips are moving, she’s lying for money.”
