Passengers on a London-bound flight were thrown into chaos when a dispute over seating erupted into a violent midair brawl. Video from the cabin shows men trading punches across rows of seats as travelers scream and scramble to stop the fight. One man’s shirt was torn open during the struggle, while children and elderly passengers remained trapped nearby. The airline later said the people involved settled the matter among themselves and no legal action was taken.
The altercation broke out on September 16th aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG-201, which was traveling from Sylhet, Bangladesh, to London Heathrow Airport. The aircraft was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner operating the long international route. Biman later said the confrontation began over “seat sharing,” though the precise sequence that turned the disagreement into a fight hasn’t been publicly explained. Fox News released a 38-second clip of the incident on September 18th.
The footage opens with passengers already in an uproar as a man in a black shirt leans across the seats toward another traveler. Arms swing through the cramped space while other passengers reach in from several directions, attempting to pull the men apart. A second man in a dark hoodie appears to grab at his opponent as the struggle spills into the aisle. Shouting fills the cabin, and several travelers stand up from their seats as the confrontation continues.
As Fox News reported, fellow travelers scrambled to intervene while crew members worked to break up the brawl. The recording shows people wedged between seatbacks and overhead bins with almost no room to retreat from the violence. At one point, the black shirt is ripped wide open as the two sides continue grabbing and swinging. The clip does not show how the argument began.
Biman provided a brief account after the footage spread online. An airline spokesman told The Sun, “Three passengers were involved in an ugly spat over seat sharing.” The spokesman said the passengers later patched things up among themselves, allowing the airline to resolve the matter without pursuing legal action. The airline’s statement did not identify any of the passengers involved.
Passenger Uddin Alim described the scene as frightening and said the presence of families made it worse. “What made it even more upsetting was that there were children and elderly people on the flight,” Alim told the New York Post. He said innocent travelers had no connection to the dispute but were forced to witness the fight and endure the fear it caused. Unlike a confrontation on the ground, passengers thousands of feet in the air had no way to flee the scene.

No police officers were waiting when the flight arrived at Heathrow’s Terminal 4, according to The Sun. Authorities weren’t alerted because no complaint was filed over the incident, and no arrests were reported after the plane landed. The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service reportedly said it could only consider the case after a referral from police. As of the latest reporting, no police investigation had been announced.
A previous brawl aboard a Biman flight on the same Sylhet-to-London route ended differently in 2022. Seven passengers were detained by police at Heathrow after violence broke out on that flight. Police met the earlier aircraft after it arrived in London. In the September 16th case, the airline said its crew resolved the situation and the passengers reconciled before any legal action became necessary.
