In a very embarrassing incident, New York Attorney General Letitia James was filmed avoiding a reporter who grilled her on both her recent legal troubles and the presence of violent anti-ICE protests in her state. NY AG James hustled away from the reporter and into a waiting SUV, which was taking her to her court appearance.
For context, shortly before the embarrassing interaction, hundreds of demonstrators protested against CE raids targeting counterfeit goods sales, detained 15-40 vendors and two protesters, sparking chants like “ICE out of New York” and condemnations of supposed fascist tactics.
In any case, the interaction began with a reporter asking James a flurry of questions as she walked to a mortgage fraud court appearance. “Miss James, do you have any comments on the ICE raids happening downtown? Does the AG’s office have any opportunity to do, at least we sent out information. We need video. Thank you,” the journalist asked without a response. James ran away instead of giving a real answer, saying only that her office had released a press statement.
For context, explaining the presence of ICE in the city, Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary, had said, “ICE and its federal partners, including FBI, DEA, ATF, IRS-CI and CBP conducted a targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement operation on Canal Street in New York City, focused on criminal activity relating to selling counterfeit goods.”
Providing more context, she explains the arrests. “During this law enforcement operation, rioters who were shouting obscenities, became violent and obstructed law enforcement duties including blocking vehicles and assaulting law enforcement. Already one rioter has been arrested for assault on a federal officer. We have more details of the criminals arrested as soon they become available,” McLaughlin noted.
In a typically woke and out-of-touch statement, Eric Adams, NYC Mayor, responded to it by saying, “New York City does not cooperate with federal law enforcement on civil deportations, in accordance with our local laws. While we gather details about the situation, New Yorkers should know that we have no involvement. Our administration has been clear that undocumented New Yorkers trying to pursue their American Dreams should not be the target of law enforcement, and resources should instead be focused on violent criminals.”
As background, James was indicted on bank fraud charges for allegedly misrepresenting a Virginia property as her secondary residence to secure a lower mortgage rate. Defending herself at a recent political rally, she whined, “I know what it feels like to be attacked for just doing your job. I also know what it feels like to overcome adversity, and so I stand on solid rock, and I will not bow. I will not break. I will not bend. I will not capitulate. I will not give in. I will not give up.”

Additionally, she claimed, “We see powerful voices trying to silence truth and punish dissent and weaponize justice for political gain. We are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government. Stand together to defend our rights. To protect every safeguard, every institution, every immigrant, every norm and every rule of law.” James was headed to court for those charges when the reporter caught her outside her house.

Self-described socialist, Zohran Mamdani added, “Thank you to New York’s attorney general, Tish James. For years, you have fought the good fight for New Yorkers, and now it’s our time to fight for you. We speak with a voice that recognizes that we are standing in front of the same courthouse where Attorney General Tish James did her job, upholding the law and holding Donald Trump accountable.”
